Shake off the rust, it’s game time.
After spending eight days idling, Mamaroneck, Yorktown and Pleasantville have to get back up to game speed in a hurry. If they win today, it’s a short turnaround with the state semis being played Wednesday at Middletown.
I don’t make predictions in the postseason because I haven’t seen any of the opponents, but I do feel pretty good about the Section 1 champions in green and white. The Huskers dominated Albany Academy last year on the way to a state title. The Panthers are probably the best team Rondout Valley has seen all season. I’m thinking it’s going to be an uphill battle for the Tigers because Niskayuna’s only losses came against nationally-ranked powers.
Here’s the schedule …
NYSPHSAA Regional Finals
at Lakeland H.S.
Pleasantville (18-1) vs. Rondout Valley (16-3), 1 p.m.
Mamaroneck (13-6) vs. Niskayuna (18-2), 3:30 p.m.
Yorktown (15-4) vs. Albany Academy (13-6), 6 p.m.
There is an $8 admission fee, $5 if you are 12-and-under or 62-and-under.
I will be there all day, tweeting updates @lohudlacrosse. I’m writing Pleasantville and Yorktown, and Nancy Haggerty will be doing the Mamaroneck game. Check back lohud.com tonight for the coverage.
And if you’re looking ahead, the Class A winner plays Syosset or Smithtown East, the Class B winner plays Manhassett or Mount Siani and the Class C winner plays Cold Spring Harbor or Babylon.
