A large crowd always gathers to watch Yorktown and John Jay battle, now matter how early in the season the longtime rivals meet. Somewhere along the line, the programs decided to use the event to spotlight a worthy cause. Parents and classmates get involved, and before the game is over, a charitable organization goes home with all the money raised.
This year’s game is at Yorktown on Saturday at 4 p.m. Please bring a couple of extra dollars and help out. The beneficiary this time around is the MS Society, which facilitates research and education for those afflicted by the disease. There will be numerous ways to contribute.
Even if you don’t have a rooting interest, this is a fun game to bring the kids to and watch. It’s also the home opener for the Huskers, who are once again the favorite to win a Section 1 Class B title. Of course, the Indians might be a little grumpy after being humbled in last year’s title game.
