Some thoughts on the game … I think Lakeland/Panas surprised Yorktown with its ferocity right from the start, and when the Huskers rushed to keep up, the offense did not function well. … Chris Monteferante flying in and scoring on the Rebels’ first shot of the game was huge. It was a great big, ‘Oh, yes we can!’ … Yorktown coach Dave Marr held Frank Fusco out in the first quarter for an unsportsmanlike play in the previous game. … Lakeland/Panas sophomore Sean Murphy is officially on the radar, scoring four goals in the spotlight. He’s got some wheels. … Eric Cooley gave his teammates what for at halftime, and Yorktown outscored the Rebels 8-2 the rest of the way. Every team should have that kind of conscience. … Huskers faceoff specialist Danny Manning has gone from over-matched to underrated in a matter of weeks. … Monterferante’s shoulder injury was huge because he won enough draws in the first half to keep the runs to a minimum. He couldn’t help at the X much after the break. … There was only a moment of controversy. In the fourth quarter with L/P down 12-10, an official threw a flag up from at least 30 yards away on a supposed cross-check. There was another official steps away from the scrum telling all involved to play on. Hard to say whether that made a big difference. … Nick Mariano was a little frustrated by his inability to finish lately, so he worked on shooting this week. The end result was four goals and two assists. … Even though he was getting some extra attention, Conor Gately finished with three goals and two assists. … There were 24 goals in the game, only seven assists. I know some offensive minds that won’t be pleased with those numbers, but it’s nice to know you’ve got some guys who can leg in a goal when needed.
