The season is officially under way. We ran previews in today’s Journal News for both sides of the river, which include my lists of 10 players to watch. Guess what? Some outstanding lacrosse players got left off those lists, especially in Westchester/Putnam, but we had to pick a number and stop there. I also spread the wealth around. These are not preseason all-star teams, so I think it’s fine spotlighting players from different teams.
You will be seeing a post under the Scoreboard & Schedule heading daily for the rest of the season that will include … duh. I’ll throw in whatever news and notes I come across, too. I also want to name a player of the day based on scores and information we get called in each night. Coaches may also e-mail me specific nominations so we don’t overlook guys whose contributions do not show up in the box score.
When you’re out watching a game, by all means leave a score and some details in the comments section of this post.
Lastly, it has come to my attention that we have a number of visitors dropping by the blog in search of girls lacrosse information. We’ve restarted the LoHud Girls Lacrosse Blog. You are in capable hands with Vincent Mercogliano, and you can find his posts here.
Here it goes:
New Rochelle 5, Mount St. Michael 4
Fordham Prep 16, Msgr. Farrell 5
Player of the day
Dennis Spencer of New Rochelle split a double team and set up Dan Getachew for the game-winner with 40 seconds to go. He finished with three goals and two assists in his varsity debut.
