The Yorktown ’Huskers are the lone area team that cracked the first Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse high school power rankings.
The ’Huskers drew the No. 21 ranking. “You can see all the rankings here.”:http://www.insidelacrosse.com/page.cfm?pagerid=65840&cat=197317&hidecontent=yes&id=197318
Considering several teams the ’Huskers would have to beat to win a state title in Class A — including West Islip (No. 3), Syosset (No. 6) and West Genesee (No. 7) — are ranked well ahead of them, Yorktown appears to be perceived as an underdog to win it all — or even to make the state championship game.
What are your thoughts?
Also gang, another note of interest. The Division III game between Cortland State and Western New England, which had been originally scheduled for Yorktown on Feb. 28, will now be played at John Jay the same day at 2 p.m.
There are a large amount of local players involved (especially on Western New England) and Cortland State’s Joey Morgan of Put Valley is a preseason D-III all-America candidate. Just check out both teams’ rosters:

player,
Doherty can play. He was voted AA by Sec. 1 coaches as a junior for a reason…he’s good. Any H.S. team in the country would love to have that talent.
Proffesor,
If you’re going to pose as an academic, please spell the word ‘professor’ correctly.
Casual Observer: Who I played for isn’t of concesquence, I don’t say who I played for because I don’t want people calling me biased. The fact was I wasn’t impressed when I played them. They play a lot of bad teams 3 times, so their record doesn’t impress me. Not to mention when they did play good teams they lost the majority of the time. They’re most impressive wins, were against Somers and LP/Panas, and they were by 2 and 1 goals.
I’m sorry, I wasn’t impressed.
I also believe Doherty is overrated. Definitely not one of the best players in NY state ( Professor?) He is not even one of the top five attackmen in Section 1. He is good, but not on that level.
lost the majority of the time? which good teams did they lose to? chiminade, rye, HT, and kburg(a game i watched and they had (they were up by like 6 at one point in the second half huge collapse which will happen with a young team)) and it is of consequence because unless you played for one of those four your just bitter that they beat you.
Casual observer, they lost the games, the rest of the teams they beat up on because they were terrible. Let them play a schedual like Yorktown, John Jay’s or Mahopac’s and they would not be as good. Aside from the teams they lost too, LP/Panas and Somers were the only good teams they played.
laxguy, weve all accepted that the majority of the teams they will play are gonna be bad. but they beat two solid sec one teams. they beat a soldi bxville team. they only lost to rye by one goal. they beat st. john the baptist who is a sold solid LI catholic school team. and dude you may have a point about y’town and JJ’s sched but pac’s? they played fordham(one of the terrible teams that you accuse prep of beating up on) and then they lost thier other two games out of section. do some research pal.
Laxguy, Pac’s schudual up until last year has always been difficult. They using play, Jay, Town, West Islip, Northport and many good section 1 teams. They’ve played Darien (scrimmages) in the past, etc. I think last year was the first time in years they didn’t play Islip and thats probably because of the coaching change. Up until these last two years Pac has been at the town of the section with Yorktown, although they could never get over the hump.
My point, Iona’s schedual is weak. Yes they have beat good teams, two of them. But I hardly consider their wins against Bronxville and St. John’s great wins. With what your saying they should beat teams of their quality regularly. LP/Panas and the Somers wins were the only ones that impressed me, and its not like they blew them out of the water.
Maybe I’m wrong, maybe they are legit. Time will tell however, I’m curious to know what their schedual is and how they will fair.
And I truly hate how the Catholic Leagues don’t regularly play Section 1 Teams. In football anyway, I hated all the talk about how Iona could run through every section 1 team when they never played them. I don’t doubt they might be able too, but people often make baseless assumptions.
Lax Guy,
Maybe you dont understand that A. it is not all that easy for Iona to just go out and Play section 1 teams in either lacrosse or football so them beating up on teams is not for fun its because they have their 3rd stringers in by the 2nd qtr. Also you are insane to think that any sec. 1 team could beat Iona in football although it is not very relavent they beat St. Anthonys 2 times in one season a team that no section 1 team other then maybe New Rochelle could beat. SO it really upsets me when people bash Iona becasue of the schedule. They play JJ, Don Bosco, a team from Baltimore this season as well as somers Rye and LP. So to say that they dont try to get out their and play a weak schedule is pure ignorance.
I would have to agree with casual observer Iona is doing everything they can to play better teams. I think that the section 1 teams don’t want to play Iona because their afraid to lose to them so if anyone is scared I think it’s the section 1 teams not on Iona’s schedule
80’s joel,
i think there are alot of reasons for not playing iona. sure some teams are scared and are ducking them but i think there are other factors as well. one is the number of games being cut. also, as of right now theres no real reason to play IP. if they win, they were suppoused to and nothings gained. if they lose or its a really close game (one goal)everyones gonna rip them. whatever the reason the fact is IP is here to stay. there now one of the top 8 teams in the area and most people(including myself) belive top 5. they are getting better games and are doing thier best to make those games count.
80’s du-op Joel sucks!!!!! play we didn’t start the fire !!!
