The recruiting commitments continue to pour in, gang, as two more standouts from the Lower Hudson Valley region — Fordham Prep’s Connor Brown and Lakeland/Panas’ Jack Doherty — have orally committed to Division I programs.

Brown, an athletic midfielder, picked Colgate. The Pleasantville resident and ESG participant was also recruited by Marist, Holy Cross, Le Moyne, UPenn, Siena, Stevens Institute and Wagner.
Doherty becomes the latest area player who is bound for Binghamton. The lefty-shooting attackman chose the Bearcats over Hofstra, Army, Quinnipiac, Colgate, UPenn and Air Force.

Folks – I’m not great with math, but I now count 14 D-I commitments among LoHud players in the Class of 2009. Wow. What else can you say. Very impressive. And now three to Binghamton: Doherty, Tyler Perrelle and Shane Warner.
Horace Greeley’s Ben Litwak, who is a standout linebacker on the Quakers’ football team as well as a standout defenseman in lax who played on the ESG team and was recruited by Hobart, Gettysburg, Franklin & Marshall, Dickinson, Trinity, Union and Robert Morris.
Litwak, who just returned from a week away at football camp, told me moments ago he has made his college choice.
Check it out “here.”:http://boyslacrosse.lohudblogs.com/2008/06/21/daily-recruiting-updates-for-class-of-2009/
This is interesting with all the Binghamton recruits. Its great to see some of the areas top players finally going to more and more SUNY schools. Joe, you have any ideas what’s bringing about this change?
Binghamton’s program has been steadily improving. That’s a big factor. Another is academics. It’s regarded as one of the one or two best SUNY schools academically. Finally, there’s the simple matter of dollars and cents. Full scholarships are extremely rare, and I would estimate most D-I recruits don’t even get half-scholarships. So if you compare the cost of Binghamton to a New York resident to a school such as Quinnipiac, for more instance, it’s a huge difference.
Just a little heads up, all- though I congratulate all those commiting to Binghamton. Coach Stevenson has a reputation in the Lax community of not exactly coming through with all he offers at the beginning. Hes had a few recruits and current players second guess there choices. Just be alert when thinking of being a Bearcat.
I have also heard the Binghamtom Coach had a few problems with some Hudson Valley Boys.
just play lacrosse, stay in the classroom and walk off the field feeling you helped mak the TEAM and yourself better and they will be fine. forget the new school tactics…
Why SUNY schools? Even if you get a good scholarship from private catholic or universities, you may still be paying well over 10 grand to go to college. Not at SUNY schools. No brainer financially for kids with some money who aren’t going to get a lot of financial aid. 1/2 of sections 1 lax players looking to play in college.
Congratulations to Connor Brown. Here is a kid that has never garnered the attention on this site compared to many others, whether it be in lax or football. Way to go Connor!
Very interesting take on Binghamton. Wonder how much of it is true. Good luck to the up and coming Bearcats.
Word to the wise – what do you mean? Are kids promised scholarships that are later taken away or given to other players? Or a spot on the team that means a seat on the bench? Tuition at Binghamton is only appx $5,000 anyway, room and board another $10,000…with 48 boys on the team, and 12 scholarships available – no one gets a fortune from state schools. These is so much talk about a free ride but the truth is – they are rare in lacrosse.
Everyone should know by now that if you’re a student athlete from Mahopac you automatically have a cost free education.
You people are nuts over there. It does not matter what sport, does not matter whether the sport is fully or partially funded, public or private,in state or out of state.Listen to these people and they all have the mythical “full ride” My latest favorites are:that lax kid going to Binghamton has a full scholarship PLUS his book costs according to his parents. And maybe even better is the kid getting a FULL baseball scholarship to a community college in Delaware and did not even have to play in HS OR the summer.
Why can’t people just be proud of their child’s accomplishments witout trying to “one-up” each other..
And good luck to all the kids because it is actually about your education not the sport that all these parents are placing ahead of everything else.
College can be the best 4 years of your life with the right attitude and sports are the bonus….
The Suny`s are becoming more attractive because of the price of private Colleges. Lets say a private school offers you a 10 grand scholorship. You`ll still be paying 10-15G more than the Suny. Suny`s are becoming more difficult to get into due to the number of Students applying (due to private cost) More applicants makes the average grades of the accepted players higher, so the bar is raised. We heard from the private schools and their offers a lot quicker than the Suny`s. NY State offers a great affordable education. There`s also been a Suny (Cortland) playing in the D3 National Championship for the last 3 seasons, Albany and Binghampton are both D1, and close enough to the Hudson Valley area that you can still see the games. What else could you ask for?
AWA – Did you forget the other D1 SUNY school which just happens to be closer than Albany or Binghamton, the Sea Wolves of Stony Brook.
Bronco Dad and Word to the wise,
I am not sure if you have your facts straight on Binghamton. There have only been two student-athletes at Binghamton from the Hudson Valley, Kevin McKeown (Goalie from Brewster) and now freshman Chris Latino. Kevin was an All-American as well as a scholar All-American and is currently a new addition to the coaching staff. There have been no “problems” with either of these Hudson Valley boys. Please make sure you are speaking the truth when making degrading statements about a program and its coach.
It had to do with Kids that did not wind up going to Binghamton, because of some shady recruiting tactics. Not kids who are there.
