We have some recruiting news, folks — and it’s a big one.
One of the area’s most heavily recruited players, Kieran McDonald, orally committed to North Carolina and newly named coach Joe Breschi yesterday.
McDonald, who will be a senior at the Westminster School in Simsbury, Conn., was a member of last year’s Hudson Valley ESG team. (The new age rules did not allow him to play again this year.) The defenseman was one of six players from the Founders League to earn all-America honors last season.
The list of schools that recruited McDonald is pretty impressive. You can check it out now on our “Recruiting updates for Class of 2009”:http://boyslacrosse.lohudblogs.com/2008/06/21/daily-recruiting-updates-for-class-of-2009/ page.

any updates joe how can we find some
joe,
where are the updates, the blog says every game live, but nothing posted since last pm and that wasn’t even about lax
Guys – We will have ipdates for the games we have reporters at. Jeff will be at the Long Island game tonite, so we will have updates on that one.
Keep in mind, we have two reporters at the Games and they are covering all sports — not just lax.
As for the other lax games, we will post the results as soon as we get them. Be sure to check the results link too on our special ESG page. “Here’s the link.”:http://lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=SPORTS&theme=ESG08&template=theme
If anyone has any scores, please post them here.
Just got this update, gang. Hudson Valley is leading Adirondack 6-3 in the first half.
As per sportsfive.net, Hudson Valley won 10-3.
jo jo with 3 and 1, and ranagan with 3
Final: Hudson Valley 9, Adirondack 3
Now THAT is a good way to start. Makes things interesting for tonight. Congrats HV.
Great start! Any word on who played in the cage? Did they split? Tonight should be a good one.
western up 5-4 over long island at the half
I heard Ric B made 25 saves and scored 4 goals. He even got some digits from some female fans. The guy is truly unstoppable …
joe how did mike bonatatibus play
I finally figured out who our beloved Syracuse is – no one has more man love for Ric B. – Vin D’Andraia
How did the Face-Offs go today?
HV girls lax beat LI today 4-2. It is deffinately HV time -let’s go boys!
HV -10
ADK – 3
I know Joe said it was 9-3, but I believe it was 10-3.
Luke H. was in goal for first half and gave up 2 goals. Mike B. was in goal for 2nd half and gave up 1.
Both did not face many shots. Good job by both on their clears.
As a unit, Defense played solid. Outside of ADK goal from in close, they really did not allow ADK to get close to the crease. D-Mids played solid out front, not letting much penetration to the crease. The team as a whole picked up a lot of ground balls. Great effort by the group as a whole.
Offensively, they started a little slow. Ranagan had three rockets from the top left-
goalie had no chance. Perelle played well in the crease and scored from in close. Jo-Jo was Jo-Jo, and I hope somebody had a video camera on one of his goals- a sweet back in move toward the crease, then a patented dive to his left. The O moved the ball extremely well in the 2nd half, and on one goal, made six solid passes to end up with an easy goal from right in front.McCormack and Ranagan did a great job on face-off’s.
Time of Possession favored HV, and at games end, it had to be around 65/35 (maybe 60/40) in HV’s favor.
Running Score:
HV 1-0, ADK 1-1, ADK 1-2, HV 2-2, HV 3-2, HV 4-2, HV 5-2,
ADK 5-3, HV 6-3, HV 7-3, HV 8-3, HV 9-3, HV 10-3
Great start by HV. Good luck against Long Island this evening.
HV-10 ADK-3
RUNNING SCORE: HV 1-0, ADK 1-1, ADK 1-2, HV 2-2, HV 3-2,
HV 4-2, HV 5-2, ADK 5-3, HV 6-3, HV 7-3. HV 8-3, HV 9-3,
HV 10-3.
Haggery played first half and gave up 2. Mike played second have and gave up 1. Neither goalie faced many shots -good play by D in front of them. Both goalies good on clears.
Close-D had solid game. Gave up two early goals. One on a late move out to the shooter, and one on an in-close goal. After those first two goals, the close-D played solid. A number of forced turnovers, and they did a good job of advancing the ball into the offensive zone.
D-middies and LSM had solid game. Forced ADK O-middies away from the crease, especially in 2nd half. Worked hard the entire game and really did not allow ADK to penetrate from up-top.
Cole and Ranagan did a solid job on face-offs. This helped HV to control the clock, and it was a bit lopsided. It could have been 65/35 or 60/40 in HV’s favor in time of posession.
Offense started a bit slow. Looked like they wanted to do a lot of one-on-one. Ranagan took control and I believe he scored HV’s first three goals, all with rocket shots while driving to his left. This really seemed to get HV comfortable. The O as a whole moved the ball very well. They looked for cutters, which was good to see. On one particular goal, there were about 6-7 solid passes with the final pass ending up on the crease for an easy goal. Perelle had a good game around the crease. Jo-Jo was Jo-Jo. One goal was a highlight reel where he backed in on the right, and moved hard to his left. Jo-Jo went airborne, and flipped the goal past the goalie.
The team played a solid game, from beginning to end. If they play a similar game tonight against Long Island, it will be a real good game.
Congratulations, HV ! Good Luck tonight !
Yes indeed. It was 10-3. My unofficial reporter at the game must have missed a goal.
Jeff will be at the Long Island game at 6.
He will be posting an advance story on the game on our special “ESG blog.”:http://esgames.lohudblogs.com/ Be sure to check it out.
did long island beat western
plenty of people have man love for Ric! But I would never go under the alias of Syracuse!
Apologies for the double-post on the HV vs. ADK game.
Look for details of all three of today’s games at
http://www.sportsfive.net.
Long Island beat Western 14-12
Central beat NYC 12-4
“Here’s the direct link”:http://esgames.lohudblogs.com/2008/07/24/hv-mens-lacrosse-gets-another-shot/ to Jeff’s preview on tonite’s HV-Long Island showdown.
No he didn’t…there is only one “ric” in the history of Section 1, and I have plenty of man love for him!!!
Jeff just spoke to HV coach Dave McNally prior to the start of the game. He said Luke Haggerty from Clarkstown South will start in goal vs. Long Island and play the first half and Michael Bonitatibus of Yorktown will play the second half.
The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at Binghamton University’s turf field #2.
Stay tuned for updates.
It’s tied 2-2 after one quarter.
Long Island jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Hudson Valley tied it on a spectacular goal by Joe Marasco with 1:50 left in the first period. The no-look, side-swiper shot came off a nice feed from John Ranagan.
Hudson Valley pulled within 2-1 when Tyler Perrelle scored off a feed from fellow Mahopac Indian John Brandofino.
hv is taking gold
Just got out of our nightly news meeting and got this voicemail from Jeff.
Long Island leads 5-4 at the half. The Island scored three straight goals to go ahead 5-2 before Perrelle and James Garry scored for HV.
Mike Bonitatibus will take over in goal in the second half for HV.
It’s 6-6 after three.
Jeff said JoJo Marasco is “putting on a show,” adding “He’s the best player on the field.” Considering the assemblage of talent on LI, that’s quite a feat.
The Somers star beat his defenders off nice dodge moves for a pair of third-quarter goals. He now has three goals for the game.
Long Island scored two straight to go ahead 8-6. Marasco then scored a spectacular behind-the-back goal to cut it to 8-7.
That’s how it stands with four minutes left in regulation.
It’s over.
Hudson Valley loses a heartbreaker 9-8 to Long Island.
Long Island won it on a goal with one second left by Steve Murphy. Murphy won a faceoff with 11 seconds to go and went in for the score.
Hudson Valley had tied it at 8-8 on a nice shot by John Ranagan. After the play, Long Island protested HV had too many players on the field, but the goal stood.
wow…Congrats to both squads…Jojo, Ranagan and perrelle are beasts
I see a rematch for the gold. Gotta beat Central though. That’s an impressive effort by HV today. No letdowns tomorrow!
Nice work by our HV boys. Do we have the save % for the two goalies?
Another great HV-Long Island game — and they almost went into OT for what would have been the second year in a row at the Games.
On the heels of the Yorktown-Syosset and John Jay-Rocky Point games, another tough one, but it sounds like a real exciting, well-played game.
Jeff will be posting more info on the game as well as his thoughts and analysis later tonite on our special ESG blog. “You can check out the blog here.”:http://esgames.lohudblogs.com/
dont count out western..they are stacked this year…losing by one is nothing unless you get the rematch….good luck boys
Also – fyi – in our poll question 45 of 88 votes predicted LI would win by three goals or more. Only three votes projected a Long Island win of one goal.
Props to the HV squad – JoJo is THE man, breaking ankles on his way to putting it in the back of the net. Love to see rematch on Sunday.
Lots of work to be done – game on Sat night v. Central is huge!
HV’s defense was nasty… hands down! They constantly made LI guess as to what they were running and LI never got into a rythym. If their defense had played the body more, LI would have scord only 6 goals total. They just seemed very well prepared. Cannot wait til tomorrow. They will go as far as their defense takes them. It truly was an impressive feat today holding ADK to 3 goals and LI to 9.
You guys need to get a little less biased. Morasco is a great player but the best player on the field in that game was English from LI. Scored every time he went. Plus his team won. HV/Central game on sat will be huge.
JoJo – 4G/1A – triple teamed all day
English – 3G
Not a math major, but JoJo had more points, correct? Yes HV lost by a goal with a second left to play and that factors into who played better because??????
If English was scoring “every time he went”, why didn’t they let him go some more?
Anywho, two great players in a great game – love to see the rematch on Sunday…
HV Emps, what rematch? Am I missing something here…
yes. This year there is a gold medal game and bronze medal game on Sunday as opposed to the round robin and you’re done. If Hudson Valley wins out, good chance they play LI again. Even if they win today and lose tomorrow, they make play Sunday. I’m sure there are a lot of possibilities left. I haven’t looked at who beat who. Needless to say we need to beat Western right now!
Come Back City baby! HV outscores WSTRN 5-1 in 4th Q to win 10-8.
Tomorrow night v. Central to move to Gold Medal game v. LI.
Stewart helps the middie push and the second game in a long day needed some new faces and names to come up big.
Stewart (3g), Perrelle (2g-1a), Santangelo (1g-1a), Marasco (1g-1a), Ranagan (1g), Honovich (1g) and Brown (1g).
