Hudson Valley ESG update

The Hudson Valley team that will compete in the Empire State Games is just about set.
Last night, following its Sound Shore League game against the Tailgators at Purchase College, the Hudson Valley coaches met and cut the team down to 31 players.
ESG coach Dave McNally told me moments ago there will be one more cut.
The final roster will be made up of 20 players that will travel to Binghamton. In a departure from the past, alternates have not yet been designated.
Yorktown has the most players with six. Rye is next highest with four. All told, there are players from 17 schools represented. Of note is that John Jay has just one player.
Of the 31, all but four are seniors. The lone sophomore is Somers defenseman Eddie Schurr.
The team will be in action on Monday when it plays Iroquois U-19 team at Oneonta.
Mario Allegra, Suffern, M, Jr.
Mike Bonitatbus, Yorktown, G, Sr.
John Brandofino, Mahopac, A, Jr.
Connor Brown, Fordham Prep, M, Sr.
Brendan Brunelle, Yorktown, D, Sr.
Jack Doherty, Lakeland/Panas, A, Sr.
John Felix, Scarsdale, M, Sr.
John Fennessy, Yorktown, D, Sr.
Ethan Fox, Yorktown, D, Sr.
J.P. Garry, Rye Country Day, M, Sr.
Luke Haggerty, Clarkstown South, G, Sr.
Shawn Honovich, Lakeland/Panas, M, Sr.
Kevin Interlicchio, Yorktown, A, Jr.

Don Keough, Rye, D, Sr.
Ben Litwak, Horace Greeley, D, Sr.
Andrew Lohrfink, Byram Hills, M, Sr.
Joe Marasco, Somers, A, Sr.
Cole McCormack, Rye, M, Jr.
Chris Moffa, Fordham Prep, G, Sr.
Pat O’Callaghan, Rye, A, Sr.
Tyler Perrelle, Mahopac, A, Sr.
John Ranagan, Yorktown, M, Sr.
Rob Santangelo, Rye, A, Sr.
Eddie Schurr, Somers, D, So.

Nick Trizano, Iona Prep, A, Sr.
Garrett Virtue, Brunswick, M, Sr.
Mack Von Mehren, Bronxville, D, Sr.
Shane Warner, North Rockland, M, Sr.

31 players?? i thought it was going to be down to 30. Does this mean that theres only one kid who will be completely cut? No spot on the team or alternate??
I asked Coach McNally that and he declined to give specifics right now. It does seem likely that one more player will be cut allowing for the 20-member team and 10 alternates (once it is decided who the alternates will be).
Just one John Jay kid? Oh this site will be just peachy over the next few days … Wear a helmet everyone.
Cuse – John Jay only had two kids who made it down to the final group of 40 or so and just three in the final 60, so while on the surface it may seem surprising, it wasn't unexpected.
One team that had a surprisingly high number of players in the final 40 was Somers, with five — all of whom were coming off their freshman or sophomore seasons except for Joe Marasco.
College coaches are forwarded the list of players who made the final 60 on down to the actual team.
Yeah, that is surprising. I'm wearing a helmet nonetheless.
of course shurr makes it as a 10th grader and three starters for john jay pickel and stearns and duruiter got cut. We will see what the score is next season with john jay and somers.
I just wonder if all six Yorktown kids will be on the final 20-man roster. From looking at who's on the current list, I can see all six playing significant roles. HV's attack figures to be spectacular.
how can you cut three jj starters on defense. JJ will have a big chip on its shoulders next season.
Here we go! Clank! Bop! Smash!
Amazing that the first 9th grader to make the team has a dad on the coaching commitee.I guess the Suffern middie was hurt all year, he had 1point for the whole season. Wonder how he made it… oh yea His coach is the head coach. This is not a knock on the players they are all good, just shows its about who the coaches want and not who is most deserving.I wish the team well.
Miller and Section 1 dad make some interesting comments about the 'politics' of the selection process. My only observation/question is "How many coaches with a 44W-54L record over the past 5 years, with his team ranked between 45th and 68th in class A in NY state (Laxpower) will lead the other 5 ESG teams?"
here are starter for jj that did not make it
silver
duruiter
stearns
daniello
pickel
'Cuse
Jay was a top heavy team both in terms of Seniors and in terms of offense.
Stewart is the only starter they have coming back on offense, and on defense, their best defender (from a defense that had issues) and Latino are gone.
If Stewart doesn't make the team, I can understand the gripes. But really, who besides Stewart could Jay complain about?
section 1 dad
The three starters weren't named Bohlander, Schneidman and Crossett
Playing with a chip on their shoulder next year wouldn't be a bad thing for Jay's D.
mcneely
perhaps I am missing something
Bocklett
Drew
Granelli
Jones
LaPerch
Stewart
How do Daniello and Silver fit into that top six as "starters"?
This will continue to be political until someone decides that the coach should be an established lacrosse coach with no ties to any team, school, coach, family ….......... There must be someone out there can be the head coach every year who will do away with all the politics that surround this team every year.
Haggerty or moffa people who shall win it out
appear to be missing something else
Whalen AND Goldfarb both graduated. How does Jay have three starters on defense returning?
It seems to me that Jay only has Stewart and one defender as returning starters next year and of the 7 all section and 5 honorable mention all league honorees that Jay had – only Stewart and Silver (hon men all league) are back.
Terry Palmer,
Pretty classless dumping on the Coach.
But credit for at least using your real name.
Goalies
haggerty is by far the better goalie and that was pretty evident after moffa performance last night not even close
i am suprise he even made the team so much for evaluation
on your performance.typical hudson valley
A lot of the attackmen can probably play O middie. Lot of good outside shooters in the mix.
Duruiter was the starting lsm played everones best middie
Pickel started close D
Stearns split time with goldfarb.
Silver played a lot of minutes in last years state championship game. and was a top d mid this season.
Daniello had 18 point as a freshman on second midline.
Roby Marr is the sleeper of the section in goal.
Congrats to all the kids that have made it so far.
Went to number of practices and everyone was busting their butt. Wish there could have been 2 teams for these deserving kids. I'm sure that many of the final decisions were made by the slimmest of margins which could have gone either way.
All the kids out there are tough players who will contribute heavily to their HS and club teams and hopefully in college well.
Joe
when will alternates be announced
Joe,
I know its not about the points, but a few of the players left had 10-15 points on the year. I ask how dominating can they be if only have a few goals in 16 games? They are not even the top point getter on thier own team.Defense and heart are also very important, but to win at this level you need firepower and the numbers on some just do not add up. Thats where the politics come in.
Syracuse, trust me – for those who actually pay attention it is no suprise that Jay only has one kid still in contention (and should make it and contribute).
Which means that it will not be like 2006 when if memory serves no Yorktown player made the team. The YTown fans were shocked and appalled and we were constantly reminded how many great players and championships Ytown had. Lot's of ugly stuff thown the way of the ESG coach as well.
So continue to say that you are impartial, and you love all Section 1 lacrosse, yada, yada. And everyone else (except your mini-me "slacrosse") is misguided and/or biased. Enjoy the moment. You should know that this is cyclical.
For someone who checks out "after June", I hope you stick around in a few years, when it sways back. The Circle of Life. Hakuna matata.
So what are you guys going to say if john jay makes it to the sectional finals next season and gives town a game.
Brandofino is in so far…I'm wearing my purple helmet for those discussions. I seem to remember reading about how good he was or wasn't.
lax 16 – There is no set date as far as when the alternates will be announced. The idea is to continue the tryout process to an extent so that the best 20 players are selected. It will obviously occur before the team leaves for Binghamton.
Miller – Points are important in evaluating attackmen – not for midfielders. Just about every coach I've talked to who has been involved in Empires says when it comes to midfielders they look for athleticism, speed, hustle, faceoffs, ground balls and two-way play.
Brandofino had two nice goals last night and has been very impressive in tryouts .As an outsider looking in has a shot at top 20 .
What I find interesting is the cries of being political. On the coaching staff you have a coach from Pleasantville, Tappan Zee, Arlington and Suffern.
If it was really political and the coaches on the staff had political motives you would see kids from TZ, P'ville and Arlington as well. Once that happens, feel free to cry political. If you are all so bitter about the coaches and the process, feel free to give up your free time and do it for free. Instead of griping here, get out and help. I was at tryouts one day at Greeley and the only coach I saw from a power school was Jim Lindsey from Lakeland and yes Tim Schurr. All the other coaches I saw were from the B and C schools…but I am sure that someone will contend that the power schools told the B and C coaches who to push through.
As for Ed Schurr- I got to see him a couple of times. He was one of the better young poles. You always see the other regions bringing a few young kids on as alternates to have some returners. I am sure that is the plan. To sit there and say it is b/c of his father is pure crap. And to be honest from what I have heard, he refused to comment on his son b/c of the very crappy reasons being given here.
With regards to the kid from Suffern, I may be wrong but isn't he only a sophomore? Again, I think another case of keeping some groceries in the pantry.
With regards to the LSM from JJ, I am sure he is good (only saw him play once) but the roster really only allows for maybe 1 true LSM and I am sorry I'm going to ruffle feathers here….Ethen Fox is better.
As for Haggarty and Moffa, I saw the game last night. While both are good goalies, Moffa was NOT outplayed by Haggarty.
Now, 1) you can all begin to attack me…I know it will happen. 2) how about we focus on the kids who made it. I think that is a pretty good team. Could do some good things at the games.
Joe
Are the blogs archived????? I bet if we went back to '06 & '07 blogs, I remember reading all the same comments about politics, coaches, number of kids chosen from certain schools, etc. Some things never change!
I also find it fasinating that the only schools mentioned so far have been JJ and 'town. Don't all the great players from all the other schools count for anything?????
Laxxer – IF we could get our hands on last years' blogs, I believe I suggested that we could/should find coaches from another part of the country with a proven track record, but who would have no personal knowledge of any particular player or school….kids would be judged solely on their performance over extended tryouts, not on their reputation….still think that's the only way it'll ever be "fair" to all participants.
We all know the politics with empire selections…we know its not perfect, but everyone tries to defend it. Just tell it like it is. Why did we have to have separate tryouts when 3 kids from Rockland make and none from Dutchess….what a waste of time..money if you had to drive to Arlington….a kid is picked from Suffern that nobody knows…1 point….oh yeah McNally is his coach…why dont we just give each coach and asst coach on the empires a free pass and let them each pick a kid…at least it would not be transparent and we wouldnt have to have these discussions…never will be perfect, but it really is unfair to deserving kids who don't have the connections….
nuff said
From my sources McNally makes the final decision on player cuts…he takes input, but it is not a democracy…it is his team….the otehr coaches, in particular like TZ and Arlington are paying their dues…it wont be long before you see a TZ or AHS kid on the team…it all goes in cycles….past years you had Nanuet & Bronxville coaches invloved and they eventually had representation for their schools…

or political?
As a Jay fan, I am not surprised. We all know Jay was top heavy, next year is a rebuilding year with some strong young kids (freshman & sophs) who have not yet had much exposure and quite frankly are young and inexperienced. Three years from now I would expect several Jay kids to make it, that being said, let's all root for this team and bring back some gold!
I was at the game last night.Moffa is the man and Haggerty got smoked. I LOVE DONALD TEET PAT AND COLE
FMar, where do you get off? How do you say I'm taking shots? Get A CLUE.
Why do you assume I actually give a CRAP that one Jay player made it? Because I mentioned and stated, quite obviously and appropriately as well it seems, that Jay fans would be upset about it. Why do you assume as a Yorktown supporter it actually matters to me how many kids make it from Jay? Don't read into it clown.
What we have here is you looking for someone to vent at because you're ticked off.
I said simply that one player made emps from Jay and that there would be reaction to it. How the hell can you take anything else from that statement?
You want to talk about this privately? You let ME know. Joe can give you my e-mail address, home phone, directions to my home, whatever.
'Cuse
What's up? You seem to be over reacting here. Except for one post, no one is upset about "too few Jay players". There does seem to be a high percentage of Jay posters here, but almost all seem agreed that the most they could expect was one.
Beyond that, the comments and the responses went to how many Jay "starters" tried out and how many underclassmen even started for Jay. Back in my century, I only remember there being 10 "starters" and then there were second and sometimes third lines. Apparently some things have changed.
But hell, even the crowd that seems to think the Jay freshman class walks on water and will have 15 starters on varsity next year weren't expecting spots on this year's ESG team.
(Next year, though – watch out
)
that's supposed to be a jokeMy comments are addressed to one guy. I know what you are saying. I honestly could give a flying crap how many Jay players make emps.
I remember the days when the Hudson Valley squad was made up of 90 percent Yorktown and Lakeland. Thank God lohud.com didn't exist then.
LacrosseInsider,
Are you really a J fan??
I'm just kidding and want to compliment you on I think being the only J fan in this thread to actually wish the HV team the best.
Hey Cuse i come on alot and always enjoy your post … do not always agree …. do mostly though.. in any case try not to let a blog get to you … all it is is someone venting ..it's all good ….most people will read and make their own minds … I'am On your side with this .. don't let this stuff get into your head …. on the blogs its people giving thier opinions that they are entitled to …as wacky or off beat that soome my seem
Laxit2me,
McNally is MOST definitly democratic. I know that for 100% fact.
Also the TZ and AHS coaches aren't just paying their dues. I have seen Arlington play a fair amount. You won't see a kid from that program on Empires for a LONG time.
Actually both of those guys have been with the team for at least 3 years, neither program has had a kid go longer than the 2nd round.
Also, the reason they went up to Dutchess is 1) it is part of the HV region and 2) no one was willing to offer a field that day for tryouts. AHS was willing to let them use the field and to be quite honest one of the very few places that let them use it for free.
I hope they do not just choose 'athletic' middies as they need a couple of guys who can break their man down from up top. Last year they had trouble with middie push and the O sufferred.
Like every year, hope springs eternal for that year's squad. Looking forward to a competitive squad that enjoys the experience. Hoefully the weather will not be as warm.
Joe – what is the game schedule for the team leading up to the Emps?
LacrosseInsider,
Went to the last practice and I felt that Stewart really made his presence felt by among other things at least one super assist and a goal. The other J kid, (Silver) really played well and also would have been a great part of the Team!
Sec 1 Lax Fan – Keep in mind, three middies on the team are John Ranagan, Will Stewart and Shane Warner — all are very established offensive players who can break down their man. The attack too should be pretty explosive offensively.
As for the schedule, the team plays the Iroquois U-19 team at Oneinta on Monday and has three more games vs. Sound Shore League teams.
Sec 1 Lax Fan,
There was a web site posted for sound shore schedule which listed the games for HV(at least in this league) :check it out but I get:
7/2 8:15 vs Sports Barn at Put V
7/10 7:15 vs C Tech at boulder Brook Park upper
7/16 8:15 vs Lurkers at Put Valley
Slacrosse –
Thanks! I am just telling it how I see it, all of the Jay Stars just graduated…Stewart should be a strong contributor to the team. I do think that Jay will have a very good team next year regardless of the fact that they are rebuilding, just not as many stars, which quite frankly might not be such a bad thing….a little internal team competition is a good thing. This summer I just want to see HV beat LI and hopefully bring home the gold, especially after my recent trip to Hofstra!
I expected Jay to have more than one but I'm not upset nor that surprised. Stewart is a great offensive player and I wish him and the HV team luck. I hope they beat LI, like last year, except do more than just that. This is a good roster backed by Yorktown and Rye especially. I still see JJ as a top 3 section 1 team next year, they still have good players they just lost so much talent the last couple of years.
NO LIMIT beat MID OCEAN ROADRUNNERS with the score of 9 – 4. Game was held at John Jay HS in Cross River. Here are the stats, i apologize for mispellings:
MID OCEAN ROADRUNNERS-
Goals- Matt Virtue 1, Paul Manesis 1, Bart Witmur 1, Drew Tunney 1
Assists- Ted Daiber 1
Saves- Gordon Cohen 19
NO LIMIT-
Goals- Alex Webber 2, Brian Carcaterra 2, Mike McCall 2, Mike Ammann 1, Rob Kavovit 1, Mike Bocklet 1
Assists- Kevin Stockel 1, Steve Ammann 1, Paul Carcaterra 1, Mike Bocklet 1, Max Mauro 1
Saves- Peter Coluccini 12
2nd Game was supposed to be played between GINER REAL ESTATE vs. SPORTS BARN, but the lights at John Jay HS didnt come on, so the game will have to be rescheduled (alot of players weren't happy, as they had to drive 45 minutes to JJ)
Joe –
Do you know if Mike Bocklet is still playing for the LI Lizards? I don't see him on the roster, I wonder if he was released after the recent draft when they picked up Ben Rubeor and others?
RUI
Why would you post a soundshore score on the emps thread??? Especially since you already posted it in the right place (soundshore thread). Most people reading this don't care about 1 regular season adult league game.
Keep it on HV empire team.
Interesting games:
Iroqouis Nationals vs Hudson Valley Mon-@ Oneonta
Blue Chips All-Stars vs WestRock @ Fairfield Univ Tuesday- 7:30
Hurricanes vs WestRock July 15th.
Good Tests for our Section 1 boys!
Lax,
Agree. J definitely a top 3 team.
Even though Town will definitely be favored in the rematch who knows when those two teams get together? Alot of adrenalin will be flowing for sure. Maybe its even better for J with less expectation on them to win?
Credit to J's depth to still have put out a really strong team this yr when as you say, look at how much talent graduated last year.
Joe- will the alternates travel to the games as well? or is it just the 20 kids selected to play?
Lax and LacrosseInsider,
I'm a Rye fan and its great to have been able to sit back and enjoy the talent and history of the Town, Jay, and other northern Westchester programs as good models for Rye to shoot for.
Respectable as always Slacrosse. Town will of course be the favorite but the rivalry will still be there, especially if they end up being in the same class. Rye has a lot of talent and will be very good next year judging by how many players made the team, – O’Callaghan, Keough, Santangelo, McCormack are names that I've been hearing and they're all juniors, beating JJ this year will certainly help their confidence in the future and will certainly have no trouble in class C next year. They're a small school but lots of young talent and a great program, definitely now considered an elite section 1 school. I would love to see them play JJ next year, they may very well be the favorites. But hope that JJ has a good season next year that will rise above expectations, they will have a lot of underclassmen talent it'll be interesting to see how they'll contribute.
Congratulations to all the players selected to represent HV. I was surprised that Ian DeRuiter, a lsm for JJ didn't make it. He shut down all of the opponents best middies and was very solid. Nonetheless, good job by all players. Nice to see a freshman on their, first since Chris Bocklet did it his freshman year i believe. Good luck this summer and beat up on long island!
Kind of funny that brian carc scored two goals in summer league.
Sec 1 Lax Fan
Let it be known that last years midfield was more than just athletic. The starting midfield of Froats, Bonitatibus, Gordon were all scorers and feeders during last years reg season. People such as you who probably did not watch all the games they played during the summer leading to the empire games don't realize how good they were. They took the Connecticut Hurricanes to overtime (they lost one game all summer to LI emps by a goal, CJ Costabile was not able to play vs LI emp that game, they had many players going to major D1 colleges). They also ended up beating LI in the last game, yeah I know that LI already had the gold, but trust me they still wanted that game badly but were beat by a very good Hud Valley team that played well. The defense played very tight early in the Emps and this was their downfall, the D did pick it up later in the tournament, it also did not help that Froats suffered a separated shoulder early in the second game of Emps. Granelli finished very strong facing off toward the end of the games, this landed him a spot with Syracuse. I feel this years team will be very good, hopefully they get the good breaks early that last years team did not.
Lax,
As for J's young talent, yeah, they're gonna be tough as these ALREADY skilled kids continue to develop.
Rye won all of its JV games pretty easily except for J which beat them convincingly 7-1! Rye's other loss was to Town by 1 I think in OT.
Joe
I would assume you ment oneonta state correct?
Surprising number of sensiors – are they rising seniors?
Stew – I know what I saw at Emps, which was very little Middie O – those players you mention are good players. The drop off was severe to the second line mids. The win v. LI was great. I did not see the prep games, so I cannot comment, but frankly – who cares what happened in those games.
As for D – you are not going to win many 6-5 games at the tourney – team needs players to put the ball in the cage. They won the two games when the scored more that 7 goals.
HV Scores from 07:
HV – 6, Central – 11
HV – 5, Adirondack – 10
HV – 8, NYC – 6
HV – 4, West – 6

Syracuse,
I also want to chime in to say "chill"—don't let one poster get your dander up. I enjoy reading this blog because of the insights I get from knowledgeable posters such as yourself, and others who I won't try to name for fear of leaving someone off of the list. I may not always agree with what I read, but I enjoy them nevertheless. Having not played lacrosse myself as a kid, all I know about the game is what I've picked up in the few years that my sons have been playing, and following this site is one of the means to learning whatever I can.
Did politics enter into the ESG team selections? I'm sure that they did up to a point, as they do in all walks of life. Based solely on what I read here, I would say that at least one selection strikes me as suspicious on its face. That being said, what I tell my kids is (1) politics are a fact of life, learn to deal with it; and (2) the best way to deal with it is to work as hard as you can to get the most out of your skills, so that the coach, employer, admissions counsellor, etc. says "how can we not take/hire/admit this kid/person?" That is one of the reasons that sports are so valuable a tool for teaching our kids to be ready for the adult world.
I'm obviously familiar with the other JJ players (DeRuiter, Silver, Stearns, etc), and think that they are all great players (and young men) who would have performed exceptionally well in the Empire Games. Was it a travesty that they didn't make it? I wasn't at the tryouts so I can't say for sure, but I doubt it. And to suggest otherwise is not fair to the other equally deserving players from other schools who busted their butts to impress the coaches and make the team. I'm sure that they will also do exceptionally well, and I hope that they bring home the gold.
Good luck and congratulations to all of the Empire players and to this years graduating seniors, and thanks to all of the Section 1 lacrosse players and coaches for such an enjoyable season.
LAX and LacrosseInsider,
Sitting next to a J parent at last HV practice who said his youngest picked up a stick in kindergarden!! Watch out!!
Bob – Alternates do not travel to the games.
All-league – They are all rising seniors, ditto for the juniors and sophomore.
empire gold – Yes Oneonta – sorry about the typo.
Joe
Any tournaments set up for Empire team?
I believe the HV team is playing at Hartwick College on Monday since the head coach at Hartwick is also an ass't for the Iroquois team.
Syracuse,
You threw the first stone…Your quote:
"Just one John Jay kid? Oh this site will be just peachy over the next few days … Wear a helmet everyone".
You yell fire in a crowded movie theater – then are shocked when people come running your way.
Your "insightful" posts often contain back-handed compliments – and you are offended when someone calls you on it.
I've discussed this enough…
Second String JJ Dad
Well said and great that your kids are learning great "life lessons" from you.
Having fun playing the game as hard as possible is most important BUT I hope there's a shot that maybe next season you'll be able to change your sign in name to FIRST STRING JJ Dad
Two Brunswick kids have made it the past two summers….too bad McDonald cant play this year because of the new age rule…brunswick also plays in the most underrated league in the nation, NE 1. I do agree that one other J kid should have been taken.
CJLAX1 – sorry but I have to disagree – when parents hold kids back they create an uneven playing field. The Emps is for HS Junior aged players and not for kids who should be entering freshman year in college.
CONNY adopted US Lax guidelines for youth play by age (U15, U13, U11) for similar reasons as parents hold their sons back a year to have a size/maturity advantage when they are playing sports.
I believe there is enough demand in Hudson Valley and CONNY to have single grade level teams (6th, 5th…) so the age disparity would not be as wide and it would allow more kids to play.
Brunswick is not a boarding school…its a day school like RCDS they just play all the boarding schools. Mcdonald I heard is 10 days too old….
Not fair to force a player to hang in limbo as alternate. HV staff does not care about the player's best interests. Pick the team and let others sign up for camps and other opportunities to get recruited. Why is McNally first repeat coach I can remember?
12 Rock, Second String JJ Dad – I appreciate what you guys are saying. I do.
That said, I just don't like it when people put meaning of posts in my mouth. Fmar seems to believe that anything JJ-related that I say is some kind of back-handed slap at Jay, as if even a compliment is really dripping with sarcasm. That is 100 percent false.
He gives me credit for being smarter than I actually am.
I find this hard to understand because these are words on a page. You can never tell what someone's intent is. You have know idea what the meaning behind it is. Fmar and other Jay folks do not know me, have no idea that I speak and write in a very conversational tone with color. So assuming I'm somehow insulting them and their faithful is unfair.
What bugged me most was Fmar's attack on Slacrosse, which was quite juvenile. I don't know Slacrosse. I'd like to, but for now am totally satisfied reading his stuff. The guy is probably the single biggest Section I cheerleader on this board. All of his posts are well thought out and predominantly complimentary. The one thing Slacrosse isn't is a Jay diehard. Obviously, neither am I. It's funny how the Yorktown and Rye guys get grief for most of the stuff they write from a chosen few Jay fans. It's unnecessary, because as I stated earlier they have no way of knowing what our intent is. I can assure you, 99 times out of 100 it's not malevolent in nature.
I think certain Jay fans, for whatever reason, are looking for a fight. Their anger over whatever it is that's on their mind, is channeled at Town, Rye, whomever fans. These chosen few take words and twist them to fit their preconceived notions.
That's crap. That's the reason why I reacted the way I did.
But if it's war some want, they've come to the right place. I have done my best to be fair. I'm allowed to be critical whenever I choose, but I'm fair about it and never, ever call out individual players or coaches.
Believe what you want Fmar and others, I'm loaded for bear for whoever wants some. LOL.
fmar,
This will be my FIRST and LAST comment on your blogs to Syracuse (in which you included my name in as well).
I was hesitant to respond as you saw fit to include me lableing me a clone of Syracuse. Please relay all your future comments regarding me, DIRECTLY to me in the future.
Secondly if you've read all my blogs you'd see that I have not agreed with Syracuse all the time but for the times that I have, can only say a big "SO WHAT"!! I've agreed with tons of people. As well I've always tried hard to be objective and respectful to all AS I'M TRYING TO DO HERE.
Finally when I first read and continue to read those 5 quoted words of Syracuse I think that any reasonable person would say that it was NO MORE THEN JUST AN INNOCENT OBSERVATION OF A FACT with ABSOLUTELY NO NEGATIVE IMPLICATIONS IMPLIED or INTENDED! Yes he expected alot of comments from J fans which was fine but not the type of negative reaction from you (the ONLY negative comment back to him on this).
You obviously have strong feelings about the selection which is fine but I respecfully submit that I think you've mis-directed this particular one!
Slacrosse – My God man. We gotta stop doing this. LOL.
Yeah.
Fmar is so sensitive that when our last blogs came out together I felt I needed to put a blog out assurring him it was just a coincidence and we weren't coordinating!
Nobody,
I am quite certain that Long Island and most of the other empire teams also have alternates. The alternates are an important part of the team. They practice with the squad and if something happens to a regular member of the team the alternates know the system. If a kid doesn't make the team and are asked to be an alternate, they can decline.
Secondly, based on aforementioned posts, it does not seem like many coaches are lining up to coach the team considering it is an unpaid volunteer position, especially when they have to deal with a great deal of criticism over team selections, tryouts, etc.
Sorry as think someone may have answered this already but can someone please tell me how the HV coach was actually selected?
Thanks
too early to predict the starting line up?? think it should be pretty powerful one *if coached correctly…
Nobody,
Alternates go and do everything with the top 20, and as flux capacitor said they are quite valuable. Besides whether a kid is top 20 or alternate, they are expected to be at every practice and game. Their info gets out to a number of coaches. Also I am sure that McNally will let any of those kids go to camps, as long as they don't miss any HV practices or games.
Actually, in my opinion I think not naming top 20/alternates is pretty smart. If you have a kid who is named alternate now, he may not work hard or not come back. To have the top 30 fighting hard every day to make the final roster will only make the valley team as a whole, better.
Slacrosse –
I am in Katonah and one of my boy's just finished kindergarten this week. He has been playing in John Jay clinics since the fall of last year (no gear, just stick), is going to Lacrosse camp this summer (full gear), and will be playing lax next year full gear, etc. John Jay Youth lacrosse has some great people, former all americans that played at Duke, Syracuse, Army, etc. It is really cool, I did not pick up a stick until high school, these kids are learning very young, and learning from great teachers. We all know that the strong youth program is a tremendous backbone of the Yorktown program, Jay is now seeing the same benefits as are other area schools. The sport is really growing and hopefully in a few years we will have many top teams competing in the section!
I have been to many try outs and the game on this past wednesday, from what I have seen, the starting team should be in my oppinion.
Attack.
Doherty
Perelle
Interlicchio
Trizano alternating in

LacrosseInsider,
Uh oh, another future Jay kindergarden kid playing lacrosse! You guys are gonna be "loaded" in 7-8 years!!
Yeah youth is the key for long term SUSTAINED success. Passing, shooting (lefty, righty), dodging, etc will all become "second nature" to your kid.
Relative to Town, Jay and other northern westchester schools, Rye's youth program is still young but very strong going into the very early grades.
The combination of this + good coaching should put Section 1 on a good footing for the future!
Head Coach is appointed by The Lacrosse( theres one for each sport ) coordinator. And that is—Drum Roll ,please…. Dave McNally!!
Also—ESG rules state that they have to declare the 20 starters by the first week in July, for dorm assignments, after that you can only make a change due to Injury!
guys i only read the middle of the blog responses but maybe yorktown has 6 kids because…....
big shocker comming up….....
I know its a hard concept….
be prepared…....
they are all good players.
i know it seems complex to some of you, but its not political if 6 kids that are really good and go to the same HS make this team..maybe you guys should watch the kids from yorktown play first .
Being a former section one player who made the empire team as a rising senior(90's) I am amazed and disapointed how this process and end result is veiwed. It used to be an honor to make the team, one that everyone in section one looked foreward to working at and if you made it you were extremely excited and if not you worked hard to make it the following year (if you could)or looked forward to your senior season. If you were asked to be an alternate you took it and ran. THis was an opportunity to play with the best and get better doing so. When the coaches of the team were Frank V, Corace, Georgalas, Searing, Turnabull, nobody questioned these decisions. Why? They won!!!! The respect was granted. Obviously times have changed because if you are asked to be an alternate now, the coach made a mistake. Instead of parents and kids looking at it as an opportunity we have to put the blame on someone else. I don't think I have an answer except this is what our world has turned into. Years ago if you got in trouble in school you were afraid to come home because it would be your fault and mom and dad would back your teacher. Now teachers have to be careful to discipline because the behavior will have been becasue of something the teachr did not do. The HV empire team needs to be looked at as the best 20 players in section one. A pretty darn good section, so if you do make it or asked to be an alternate be proud and look at it as a accomplishment the person behind you would love to have. Thats the way it was done in the past (90's)
AllLeft,
Thanks for info on how the Coach is selected.
Yeah if there was going to be a rising sophomore on this list I would have guessed Daniello but anyone know if Eddie Schurr is good never Somers play this year, I'm guessing he's the son of former Somers head coach Tim Schurr.
they take one goalie or two?
I agree, take the twenty best, but let them know now. Bs to let HS kids hang in limbo. Being an alternate is not much of an honor, come work your ass off and be left at home. Give the kids a choice, if they want to decline, so be it. Its their team, not the coaches. HV coaches feel they need to work harder than other areas to win, and in turn it almost becomes a punishment to make the team. HV needs better philosophy, my humble opinion.
Mack-
Don't you think your attack line is just a little bit messed up. After all, you do have 3 lefties starting. I would probably think about taking out the lefty cannon in Interlicchio and in his place put in the righty cannon of Brandofino (Plus he is quicker and has better dodges than Interlicchio).
Nobody,
That attitude is exactly what has changed the high school/coaching enviroment over the past 10 years. Hudson valley has been doing it the same way since it's inception. Shoot, in the early days, 30 plus kids practiced the entire summer with the final team announcment the week before empires. Now, they actually tell the kids after a few weeks of try outs and games where they experience the next level of lacrosse an gain invaluable experience on the lacrosse field. HOW DARE THEY? Dude, get a grip.
Not true. Alternates were chosen after 3rd tryout, always held at Van Cortland MS. Also, many have denied simply bc the choice didn't make sense. There was a period in the late 90s where (section 1) non Empire Players won more D1 collegiate national championships than HV Empire Players. And those who were part of those D1 championships decided it was an insult to be an alternate, and found opportunities to develop their game elsewhere. They proved the coaches wrong, and had that right. It should be a reward, not a duty. Let the kid know where he stands, he is 16/17 years old and doesn't deserve to be dragged along all summer. I agree, being an alternate is a wonderful opportunity to play competitive lacrosse all summmer, and become a great player. However, crushing the spirit of a high school athlete bc HV hasn't won in a long time and need to "step it up" is dumb.
lax34
They take 2 goalies. There down to 3 and I think it will be a hard choice for the coach who he should pick for the final 2.
Mike- Very solid goalie, will make the team again as he did last year. No need to talk about him much because there isent too much debate on weather he makes it or not
Haggerty- Prob best ball stopper out of all of them but has trouble with a clear in the soundshore game. Saw him play through the year twice and both times showed me he was ready for empires
Moffa- Getting alt last puts him in a "higher" spot then haggerty I beilive. I got to see him a few times last year in the practices for empires and he seemed like a good goalie.
It will come down to the next game who steps to be the 2nd goalie.
KDOG,Nobody, and DNice,
Good points about the 80's and 90's, and the way it was.
I think what has changed, and the fact that some of the attitude especially in being an alternate has differed is choices. Back then it was Empires, or the Cortlandt HS league AND THAT WAS IT. With the Westrocks, and Epics, etc there is another opportunity to be seen at recruiting tournaments to be a marketable Laxer. Ive heard this is the reasoning of Janavey and others to give kids MORE! to look forward to.
Wow,
Just when I thought it was safe to go back in the water. Well with ther weather getting warmmer it seems the Blogs are heating up. There should be some great Lax this summer, I am going to just kick back and enjoy. It will be interersting to see how far HV will go in the ESG. There is a ton of tallent to choose from. Kdog some great points. I agree. At one time it was an honor and a privilage to make this team. Now it seems coaches have to make excuses w for not selecting a player, or selecting one as an alternate. .I am looking forward to watching how different styles mesh with the players, and coaches. Strap on your hat and let's play.
Peace I',m out.
Cuse nice to see your still with us.
Joe L. great job as always.
LAX
Yes, Eddie is Coach Schurr's son, but, I believe, made the cut on his own merits – when Somers played at Rye, comments around me (from those "in the know") were "that's a good player – oh, he's young – he's going to be REALLY good". If he doesn't actually make the final cut this year, I'm guessing he'll be a shoe-in in '09.
There is no question that it is still an honor and privilege to represent section 1 on the HV Empire team. Just ask the kids who don't make the final cut. Some things may change regarding coaches and the details of the selection process- but by and large, I expect that the right boys will be on this team and they will all be hungry to be successful. I also think that we should be thankful that this coaching staff volunteers the time they do to this team.
van court dust,
thats a great point.
i don't know how the alternate system works but if they only get to practice and dont get to play in the tournaments leading up to the ESGs then they'd be much better offpersonally if they declinined and played for other teams and anyone who basehes a kid for that is just crazy.
can anyone fill me in on the whole alternate process? that would be very helpful.
Casual Observer- the alternates do everything the same as the others except they dony play in the games. They do all the torneys and equal PT
im going to be totally honest right now. ed schurr was a solid player for somers but not an empire player. the coaches have great respect for tim schurr and would never cut ed from the team no matter what. Tullgren Phiffner and Donahue would have had a better chance if their dads were on the side line just like tim was. eddie is a good kid and an alright player but to young. jojo marasco is a god!
ragu,
thanks for the info
Nobody, for many years all the kids played the entire summer and the team was announced right before the esg games. I know because I was on the team. Not sure when they stopped doing it that way, but that absolutely was the way early on. As far as the kids that get alternate already have an idea what summer teams they will join after the selections are made. Many have been in contact with the coaches of these teams. They can also go to several camps for more exposure as well.
Man I miss playing in the dust bowl at van cort!
Just wanted to say good luck to the HV team as they go play the Iroquois U-19 team today.
That team looks pretty stacked, but I think win or lose this is a game those kids will remember for a long time.
I see Player # 31 on the list. Now you know why the list is at 31 instead 30.
I actually like HV's chances this year. Individually, their attack looks incredible. Middies look strong and deep and goaltending should be solid. I wonder a little bit about close defense depth. Granted, these are the best of the best underclassmen Section I has, but they'll be under a lot of pressure to hold down vaunted attack units from, among others, Long Island and Central.
It's a crapshoot I know. I just wonder if McNally and Co. will look to run and gun more or try to settle things and take their chances 6-v-6. I'd think in a scenario such as this when practices are at a minimum and familiarity with each other is good but not great, maybe pushing things on offense is the better approach.
Regardless, I see a medal coming. Don't know which color yet.
Cuse,
You got any on site guys at game today for some feedback?
anybody hear anything on the game?-Thx

Hey. I'll take 12-6 over 12-3 anytime!!
Anyone have some game details, comments on HV vs. I U-19-THX
I was at the tryouts up to the last cuts and seeing the team some of the kids who made it should have made it, those were the best kids there, i dont remeber any john jay kids really standing out.
Brandofino 2 goals Trizano 2goals Marasco and Santangelo 1 apiece
how the goalies look?
Final was 17-9.
Valley hit at least 8 pipes in the game. Game was 20 minute running quarter with the first half being played with international rules, 2nd half high school rules. Obviously created a much quicker pace in the first.
Overall, there are things to work on but apparently they looked good.
I would take this as a positive when you consider there were playing men today, with one of the Iroquois played in the NLL this year (Peter Jacob).
Nice Defense Mcnally!!!!
who is going to be Pville lax coach next year?? I heard he was resigning.
The reason you have 31 kids is that 1 player (who shall go nameless) missed the practice when they were supposed to cut it down to 30. This kid had a prior commitment(a prom I'm told)and was given a pass. This is from very reliable sources. They will be cutting down to 30 shortly. As other posters have already discussed many kids who are rising seniors, who are selected as alternative decline. They tend to feel upset and decide that attending camps will be more beneficial from a recruiting standpoint…Also, for history buffs, McNally threw his hat into the ESG coaching ring a few years back, after HV went through a string of years where the HV team performed poorly….many felt it was time for a change and with the exception of McNally, no one really came forward. He was given a 5 year commitment from the HV ESG people (Frank Intervallo et al).
Joey Mac—
I was not able to see the game. Did you make it to Oneonta to watch the game ? If so, what happened to the defense ? Did they play poorly (bad slides, get caught ball-watching etc.)
Or, did the team get beat in transition, either in unsettled situations or in face-offs ?
Or, was it that the defensive middies could not make it onto the field, and the team had offensive middies trying to play defense ?
Did the offense turn the ball over, requiring the defense to constantly be in play ?
I realize that the score may indicate a poorly played defensive game, but there is a lot to consider when determining why a team gave up 17 goals.
Oh, and by the way, I am sure it had nothing to do with a group of 16-17 year olds playing against 18 year olds !!
This group of players will be fine when the Empire games come around—give them a chance !! Give Coach McNally credit for scheduling a game like this. It was a good test for the players/coaches, and it will help them in the future.
As to the defensive unit, it is not as if they have played along side each other on the defensive side of the field for more than a couple of practices (can't count tryouts, as all the players kept being shuttled in/out). It will take some time for them to "come together" as a unit. Jay, Town and Rye all had young defensive units when the 2008 season started, and they came around and have very strong seasons at the end. There is no reason to believe this team will be any different.
the only difference is coaching???
Laxxer,
Makes sense—I hope. But on from your point think the sooner the 1st team is so these kids can really "meld" and get to know each others play, the better!!
have they made attack, middie, and d lines yet?
I was able to see the game. To be quite honest, at the half the score was 9-3, 5 of those goals came man down. Now before people start screaming…they were playing internatinal rules which did not allow the HV to get their man down unit on the field. For those of you not familiar with international rules, once a penalty is called the offending player must run off. As soon as the offensive team who is man up picks up the ball, the official blows the whistle to start play. Thus, the HV was not able to get the proper units on and generally played Man down with offensive middies, who quite honestly did the best they could. In the 2nd half, the man down may not have given up a goal (or one at the most).
A couple goals were transition, I believe the Iroqouis only had 1 "settled" goal in the first half. In the second, they had more. Of course it is hard to stop some of the lazers they had. Or the goal of the beautifully executed hidden ball trick. I thought the close defense as a whole, was very aggressive, smart and the thing that stood out to me the most, very talkative.
As laxer said, they have only been together a few times since getting to the top 45. That was, I believe, the first time they were together as a top 30.
With regards to faceoffs, in the 1st half the HV was right there winning their share, in the second half you could clearly see the guys were getting tired (they played an 80 minute game).
The offense looked ok and again, in the first half played well, as I said before they also hit about 8 pipes.
I think this team will do well, I think the coaches are doing the right things.
And one note on McNally that Laxmeup pointed out, he offered, no one else really wanted it. And while the team record may not be what a lot of people want, he does have to get some credit for brining home the first medal 2 years ago for the first time since what 2000? and then beating LI last summer for the first time in I believe 10 years?
I would be curious to know, Joey Mac were you at the game?
The defense didn't play poorly. As said earlier the halftime score was 9-3. I believe 5 of those goals were man down. Now, please keep in mind they played international rules which means that once a penalty is called, the offending player must run off. As soon as the offensive team picks up the ball the whistle blows to start play. Thus, the HV did not have a chance to get their man down unit on the field and most times played man down with offensive middies. In the second half when they played high school rules I don't believe they gave up any man down goals (maybe one). As for the defense istself, they played well, they played aggressive, smart and most importantly they communicated very well for a team that I believe only played as a top 30 unit for the first time yesterday. They maybe gave up 2 or 3 goals in the first half on transition and only 1 "settled" goal in the first as well. Faceoffs for the first half were fairly even and the offense had chances, I believe they hit at least 8 pipes for the game. The 2nd half was a little different. Since the first half the pace was so uptempo you saw the kids get tired. Keep in mind they played an 80 minute game. In the second, it was tough to stop some of the lazers that were being shot, and the Iroquois scored a beautiful goal on a perfectly run hidden ball trick.
Is Stewart from JJ going to make the team. What mid line is he playing right now.
Chris,
Thanks for the color. It does sound like given the "different" type of play the kids were up against (yes against a very strong team) with a still melding HV team that there would be some decent positives to honestly take away from the game.
someone who was there answer my question. How did the goalies do?
I may be wrong, but I think it was the first time in 15 years HV beat LI.
Dog45- To be honest I was there and Haggerty played the best again them. Moffa was off against them but also in his favor he was not getting much help. Mike b also didnt get much help either.
against*
Can anyone point me in the direction of the historical records of HV in Empire Lacrosse games?
Or perhaps post it here?
Empsvalley,
Good color on goalies. Anyone else jump out at you for a strong performance ? Thanx
I'd be very surprised if Stewart doesn't make the team, he'll probably be 1st string middie I heard he was good in tryouts wasn't at the game though.
Jojo as normal stood out. Interlicchio had a really nice feed to shane warner. Don Keough was clearly the best def out there, stripping 2-3 kids and makeing a a really nice pick off the crease
EmpsValley,
Hey thanks for your color!
Sla
Brandofino looked good as the righty attack on line with Interlicchio and Dougherty. warner and Felix looked good at middie. JoJo looked like JoJo. All three goalies looked okay but Nationals were very strong and have played together much longer
lax 16,
Thanks. From waht you said I'm sure that HV will play alot stronger as they continue playing playing/practicing together.
Lax,
Thought Stewart gave himself chance to stand out in 1st game vs tailgaters (at least 1 string goal and assist that I saw)
How were Perrelle and Synan?

People from LI say it's one of the weakest teams in years though… but they're still very good of course
That's for sure Lax!
In reply to PacFan, Synan was the fastest of the Long Stick Middies, pretty good considering it isn't his position. Not sure about Perrelle.
HV game tonite 8:15 at P Val vs Sports Barn
Tonite's game. Need to confirm time and place?
Imagine an LI attack line of English, Galasso and Palasek…Thats pretty darn dangerous, considering its UVa, Hopkins, and WHEREVER he wants in Galasso, some consider him to be top soph in the country.
Be interesting to see that vs. Marasco, Doherty and co.
Hear coaches said tonite game at 7:15(not 8:15) at P Val
laxerr,
Hey. No problem!! Crushing close D, disrupt their transition, dominate face-offs and lethal O will do LI IN!!
Crosse the 7:15 game is a high school game Brewster Vs PV then empires after
Thanks 12rock
Yeah their attack is pretty scary – English, Galasso, Palasek, Chapman, but our's is good as well – Doherty, Perelle, Interlicchio, Brandofino… don't recognize many names besides the ones on attack though.
Oh no question our attack is legit…I'm not concerned about that, more concerned about our D containing their ridiculous weapons, their 4th best attackmen (Chapman), we can ask Rye about him…
chapman is not good at all from: rye
At game tonite where 20 + alternates picked after game.
Hopefully Joe will show this list ASAP
Dont agree that Chapman (a big kid) "not good at all" as said above but would say he's definitely not in same class with Gallaso, Palesek, English.
ALl I know is Mike B and Haggerty are the 2008 empire goalies
umm,
better make that "5th" best attackman
Nick O'Reilly from South Side (UVA) was AA and all LI ahead of both Chapman and Palasek
all i know is that both Doherty and Interlicchio are alternates but Jack turned it down, maybe this is why we have not gotten a gold medal since 1992 when we cut all americans and top D1 prospects.
If KI and Doherty were both alternates, who are the attackmen….I think it leaves us with Santangelo, Perelle, Brandafino and Trizano….That is unbelievable if true…I hate throwing names out here but Coach Mcnally should not be coaching this team every single year…I heard KI is a top recruit for Cuse and Duke….but not good enough for emps…Coaching staff needs to be changed for this and other gaffs throughout this process….I know some will jump on me and say support the boys, but how is he cutting these players….
Joe,
Thanks for a list please.
Someone please post the final list, alternates, dates of games, etc. The coverage so far has been very week. Someone please wake up Syracuse and get him on this!
All I know who made the top 20 are….
Brandofino
Perrelle
McCormack
O'Callaghan
Santangelo
Virtue
Keogh
Haggerty
Stewart
Honovich
Brown
Mike B
Jojo
Ranagan
Fennesy
Litwack
Garry
someone please tell me that Doherty didn't get asked to be an alternate! there is no way that kid isn't one of the top 5 senior attackmen in the STATE! the ppl making this decisions should be ASHAMED of themselves. how can anyone root for a team when there is so much politics involved that the best players aren't representing the HV!!!!
Hud Lax22
Thanks
DEF NOT SURE but thought also warner, Schurr, and Trizano??
Empires coaches did "it" again. Interlicchio is only an alternate. One of the best attackman on THE best team in section. How about an All-American getting cut? They must really like losing. Its a good thing that Suffern Coach appointed himself the coach of Empires til the end of time. Time has definately run out! Empires coaching staff needs an overhaul.
I have been at almost every tryout/game and Doherty has just not been doing good at all. If I were a coachfrom the outside and knew nothing about section 1, I would not have picked him either.
Disappointing and surprising news on Interlicchio and Doherty. Still, let's give the coaches the benefit of the doubt and see how this team does. I don't want to hear about overhauls until after the Games- it's not fair to the boys that were selected. The final selection decisions must have been a very difficult. The important thing is that this team fulfill its potential- with or without a few players that might be deserving but are alternates. I hope we can be positive and not call out players who are on the final 20 man roster. We need these coaches to hang in there, ignore the criticsm, and get the most out of this team IMHO.
This is an embarrassment that Doherty and Interlicchio get alternate….. They are BY FAR the top attackman not just in the section but in the state…Put Ranagan as an alternate last year and hes going to Hopkins….McNally I think it would be wise to resign after this year and let someone who knows what their doing take over….
We just went from possible gold to maybe nothing at all.
What a joke.
clearly lax and pacfan are either the players dads or the players themselves..take it easy, this team will be fine.
This team is still going to do damage..very..very explosive team. I am very surprised to not see Doherty make the top 20 that is one kid i cant argue against not making the team i would have taken him over santangelo. Interlicchio on the other hand i understand not making the top 20.. the other guys are just plain and simple more complete attackmen then he is at this point in his high school career. Brandofino, Perrelle, O'callahan, and Trizano im he did make it will hold it down just fine.
Clearly there is some connection, however, with the attackman picked, Brandofino, Santangello, Perrelle and Marasco….I would like to think that the HV attack is more than solid.
I would be surprised if anyone would/could argue that.
Just out of curiosity, isn't Interlicchio only a sophomore?
Pacfan
Perrelle and Brandofino are your players. Why are you so upset team will do great. Coaches just chose the players who had the best tryouts.
I think Marr & Sav should team up to coach empires next year. Two of the best lax coaches in the area. They play the tough compt and know how to run.
What about Katchis? Is he still on the team?
lax 16,
I agree. I have to make the assumption that you did. The Coaches have had many good intensive looks at all these kids and I must assume that they saw things in THESE PARTICULAR PRACTICES and GAMES that made them go with certain kids and not others. "AA" and other labels shouldn't be an automatic ticket to being chosen. They want to have the best performing guys on the field to win as everyone else does.
Yeah as an example did I think (as laxstar23 and pacfan did)that when this thing started that a kid like KI would end up on the team-sure! But it didn't turn out that way and you gotta move forward as frustrating as it may be.
Now's the time to support the team.
Next season if enough people with influence REALLY want to change the system and have a new Coach, so be it!
Not an exact science picking the team – time will tell on selections. Rye has most of any school from early calculations. Good luck to all.
Any feedback from last night's game v. Sports Barn?
Motta,
This is ABSOLUTELY no particular reference to coach Sav or Marr but I've heard generally that an issue for coaches was giving up lucrative "camp" revenues to coach HV?
Good job haggerty!!! you deserve it and The parents from clarkstown south know you will do in the empire games.
I got to watch a lot of the tryouts and games. From every instance I saw, it looked like Doherty didn't even want to tryout or be there…almost like he was being forced to be there. To confused, I really doubt that he is a top 5 senior attackman in the state, I would say LI has 3: English, Galasso and Palasek, you also have Jojo from Somers and we haven't even gotten up past Albany yet.As for Motta, correct me if I am wrong, wasn't Sav on the coaching staff at some point between the years 2003-2005? Sav is a great coach, but the Valley hadn't medaled since '97 I believe? And who was the coach, McNally.
To play for rings, Ranagan was not this good last year by the time the top 20 were picked. He improved tremendously throughout the summer. I understand that people are frustrated, but their hands are also tied, they can only bring 20 guys with them, and in that 20, you have 2 goalies, and most teams now bring a LSM and a FOGO. So you are already down to 16. Assume you bring 4 poles/4 attack, that leaves 8 middies, and the way the game is going, 1 or 2 of those are d-mids, which leaves 6 middies or 2 lines. You will always have guys left off who should maybe go on.
As for the coaches, Slacrosse, you are correct. I have seen that there is generally a call out asking for guys to voulenteer their time to help with Empires, no one accepts. Except for the coaches who are on the staff this year and I think were with McNally since he took over 3 years ago. I think they should all be thanked for giving up their time, loss of potential profits from camp and the money they spend on gas and other expenses to do this.
playing for rings,
Come on. Saying Dougherty and Interlichio are the "BEST ATTACKMEN IN THE STATE"!! So Jo Jo and other attackmen in the HV, please step out of the way!! Oh yeah, you too Gallaso, English,Palesek, O'Reilly (Southside-UVA), and a couple of kids from Genny!!!!
Dougherty and KI are really good and just as well could have made the team. But at least for KI he's only a Junior with great potential that is still developing and he should be awesome.
LAX from 10:29, please use a different name, and I'm surprised as well, but hey they tried out and their coaches made their picks, if you weren't at the tryouts don't talk. And post on the thread Joe just put up not here.
Oh and playing for rings listen to slacrosse, they're definitely NOT the best attackmen in the state let alone the section.
not putting an all american on the team is a slap in the face to the rest of the section 1 coaches. good luck if you win a gold you are genues if not a goat. last time I checked Mcnally has not one a thing with suffern.
Hey Lax, who other then Marasco will be playing in sec one next year that is better then Interlichio and will be playing major D-1 in college. Interlichio is one of the "best" junior attackman in the state easily and "has" the potential to be one of the best in the country 2 years from now. Doherty right now is a level below Interlichio. personally I didn't think he should have gotten AA this year as well. 9 AA's in section one is a joke, but that's for another day.
i was also able to see some tryouts and doherty was loafing around and not caring at all, shooting all the time…his head was always down. this team is solid, stop doubting them, suck it up guys…hopefully they prove you doubters wrong
Interlichio is not even close to the best attackmen in the section…he doesnt create for himself, he is a step down shooter…good eye for the field but not top attackmen in HV.
laxer14, that is the most in accurate statment that I have ever read on a lax forum. Granted now, Interlichio needs to get quicker and is a bit slow which makes it more impressive that He is a dodger first and foremost. That is what he does. He shoots off a dodge and on a run. FYI, by being a dodger, you are creating you own shots. you obviously have not seen many Yorktown games this year. He has some things to work on, but only marasco is a notch above him in section 1. Bocklett was too, but he is gone. But to say "not a top attackman in HV is hilarious. Dude, I would give up analyzing the game of lacrosse now.
I forgot about Perelle, so I would rank him as the 3rd best attackman in sec one as a junior next year.
Doherty will also be one of the best, I don't know what was up with him in tryouts, but he racks up a crazy amount of goals. I'd say he's better than Interlicchio, not taking anything away from Kevin because he's a year younger, and Perelle, Brandofino, Santangelo, Trizano, and of course Marasco will be the best attackmen next year too along with Interlicchio, many good players are returning. Kevin will probably be the best attackmen in sec 1 in 2 years along with Brandofino, but not in the state as long as Galasso is here.
Kevin Interlicchio is CAPTAIN for the #1 team in Section One and he's not on the 20 man roster??? MCNALLLY YOU ARE A JOKE!!!!!! Time to give the reigns to SAV and MARR!!!!!
