Senior game, ESG tryout postponed

June
16

Today’s senior all-star game at Yorktown and the ESG tryout at Horace Greeley have been postponed because of the threat of thunderstorms.

Because of state regulations, today was the last day the all-star game could be played so it will not be rescheduled.

    Section 3 Boy's Senior All-Star Game Tuesday @ West Genesee, Class C & B at 5PM, Class A at 7PM

State regs, what are you talking about. Section 3 has there all star game on tue.

    Section 1 is a joke

  2. ...

This is absolutely ridiculous…Whoever planned this should be assamed of themselves leaving to the last day…Tell that to all the seniors that have worked there ass off for four years, thanks section 1!

  3. joey mac

They still could have it tomorrow night.

Next year they should not wait to the last minute. They should do it one week before the state championship and just have the team that are not in the states.

  4. section one

I was invited to play in this game and find it extremely dissapointing that i now cannot play my last section one game ever…

  5. baller897

i was invited to play in this game as well, and i am also very disappointed that i won't be able to play in my final game. it doesnt make it any better that section 3 is playing their senior game tomorrow either.

  6. rice16

i was another senior invited to play and i completely agree with both of the other seniors before me ….. its embarrsing the lack of thought put into letting us representing section 1 one last time

  7. Senior

I agree, instead of ending your final game in high school with a loss, a fun game would have been nice. Too bad it got no press, and the kids invited to play had to keep asking when and where the game was….

  8. Rui

Now that the high school season is over, the Sound Shore Summer Lacrosse League has started, and here are the stats from the 1st game of the season that was played at SUNY Purchase(what a nice field they have) and after a 20 minute rain delay. It was POURING insanely and we were right in the middle of it, as everyone was waiting inside their cars, but once it passed, we played some LAX and here is the info:

    Away- Eurotech (mostly Brewster players)

Home- Bayside Tigers (some Hen Hud, and some Suffern players)

    1st Haf
    Eurotech- 2
    Bayside Tigers- 2

    2nd Half
    Eurotech- 3
    Bayside Tigers- 1

    Goals-
Eurotech- Lee Alexander 2, Nick Alfonzeti 1, Mike Fowler 1, Ethan Meyer 1
Bayside Tigers- Kevin Scadiack 1, Paul Stack 1, Kevin Tines 1

    Assists-
    Eurotech- Matt Jankowski 1
    Bayside Tigers- Scott Weiner 1

    Saves-
    Eurotech- Connor Sweeney 7

    Kevin McEwing 8
    Bayside Tigers- Evan Meger 8

  9. section one

I barely had any idea about the game until my coach let me know…It was horribly advertised and not even publicized… I'm just angry that i had the hopes of playing one more game, on charlie murphy field, and now I wont…quite unfortunate, there must be something section one could have done. Also, how do you organize a senior game, and with the weather, not at least have a possible rain date? Somewhat ridiculous to me.

  10. Totally Unacceptable!

What state regulation??? Let the kids play, how ridiculous and how disappointing for them. Who can make this happen?

  11. BigBadBear

Let's play Friday! (Section dinner on Thursday, I think?)!!

  12. Parent

Just saw the program for the senior game that was supposed to be played, how come some teams are not represented, like Lakeland, Brewster, etc…. How are the kids picked?

  13. Joe Lombardi

The ESG tryout from yesterday that was postponed has been rescheduled for today at Horace Greeley. Registration is from 3:15-4 p.m. Play starts at 4:15 p.m.

  14. BigBadBear

    Parent:

is that program for the senior game available on-line? Would like to see it myself, where did it come from?

  15. Alumni

The mere fact that this game did not go off just rings with the way things are run in Section One. You coaches involved should be ashamed. How is the section going to get better.

Here is the truth. Look at the tallent in the Hudson Valley, It's not from the coaching It's from the dedication of every one of the player's who have made section 1 what it is. How about some help for these guy's. Thank you Joe for this Blog otherwise we would all be in the dark.

  16. Parent

BigBadBear, it is not on line. I received it from my son's coach. It was supposed to be handed out last night at the game.

  17. BigBadBear

Parent, ok thanks much..it would seem to me that at least the Section could publish these names in some way

  18. Lax

Section 1 Lacrosse should take some lessons from Section football which would never let this happen and would find a way to play the game or oganize it better. Its a slap in the face to every senior that was picked. Joe who is responsible and can they make it happen?

  19. joey mac

Section 1 lacrosse is a joke. Section 1 football shows a highlight video of each all section player at the all section dinner.

coaches it is time to move on with the times

  20. section 1

Stop putting down the section 1 coaches. last time i checked they get to big time colleges every year with schalorships. Section 1 football is a joke

  21. Lacrosse

The majority of kids dont get big scholarships, this would have been a nice event for all, the ball was dropped.

  22. College Coach

    Joe,

When is the next HV ESG tryout? Is there one today (Wednesday)?

  23. lets go joe

    college coach

today @ 4:15 suffern middle school

  24. lets go joe

    college coach

    my mistake 4pm @sms

  25. Goalies

What 4 goalies are left in the tryout

  26. Joe Lombardi

There are 60 players remaining in the tryout process and after today they will look to cut to 40-45.
They will then likely have a practice or two and a scrimmage before getting it down to the final 30 (including alternates).

  27. hey dude

    Which goalies are left

  28. HudsonRIVER

I know of Mike b Haggerty and moffa, not sure who the 4th one was.

  29. HVLAX

Does anyone know the 40 or so players that make up the empire team so far??

  30. laxface

the last goalie is some kid from ossining

  31. lets go joe

    Joe

are you going to post the top 40 empire players would
def like to see who is their thanks

  32. Ragu

yea joe that would be great to see if you could post the remaining 40

  33. lets go joe

    Hey joe

Can you tell us anything about the empires try-out
who looks good also i heard they[Coaches} will not let anybody know who is an alt until the last day or so,don't know if i agree with that one.

  34. Joe Lombardi

The ESG coaches will be making the final cut after a practice/tryout at SUNY Purchase on Wednesday. The game is at 7:15.
Assuming a lot of the players trying out make the team, this could be one of Hudson Valley's most talent-laden teams in a while, with guys like Joe Marasco and John Ranagan available at either midfielder or attack, Kevin Interlicchio, Nick Trizano, Jack Doherty and Tyler Perrelle at attack, Johm Fennessy, Don Keough and Ethan Fox on defense and Mike Bonitatibus in goal. That would be a pretty impressive squad for sure.

  35. LAX

Yeah lots of good juniors, especially on Yorktown, but also guys like Doherty, Perelle, Keough, Stewart, Stearns, Trizano, and Marasco of course

  36. lax 16

    Joe

Been hearing a lot of good things about Mahopac attackmen Perrelle and Brandofino.

  37. weWANTgold!

    Joe,

I agree with you, this team can be for sure one of the most strongest HV teams we have seen in a while….If these kids learn how to work together and play as one, I think they will have a good shot at contending for gold….I think Ranagan, Marasco, Doherty, Perelle, Interlicchio, Trizano could be an extremely powerful offensive unit…Agree Joe?

  38. Joe Lombardi

wwg – Once the final cut is made we can really analyze it, but this certainly has the potential to be one of the deepest and most talented ESG teams in more than a decade.

There are obviously quite a few established offensive players likely to be on the team, but don't forget about the defense. Goaltender Michael Bonitatibus was on the team last year (and is certainly likely to be again) and there is also a good group of defensemen still involved in the tryout process who had impressive years this spring.

Another key ingredient is athletic two-way midfielders and there are a few players who have a shot to make the team who may not be household names just yet but who will play key roles as well.

  39. Goalie

who the other goalie going to be this year.

  40. goalie camp

After watching the last couple of weeks i think it's between haggerty and moffa pretty close right now hard to tell,I think haggerty is a better ball stopper.

  41. HV Emps

Go w/ ball stopper, Haggerty, as back-up – this year's team is stronger on O than D – tough to excel on slide packages with so few practices

  42. Joe Lombardi

Chris Moffa from Fordham Prep was an alternate on last year's ESG team (behind Michael Bonitatibus and Chris Latino).

  43. EMPIRES

Haggarty seems to be the better goalie though. It will come down to who plays better at the soundshore game coming up

  44. laxer47689

    Joe –
I think you are shooting out names of some players that may not have as much of an impact on the team as other, lesser known players will. Some of these "big name" players have not had stellar tryouts, while players from other teams have shown to be very impressive. Middies from Byram Hills and Brunswick look very impressive, and the Ossning goalie is just as talented or more so then the other three.

  45. woo

  46. Joe Lombardi

laxer47689 – You must have read right over a comment I made prior to yours. You can scroll up and check it out. But the one I'm referring to is this:
"there are a few players who have a shot to make the team who may not be household names just yet but who will play key roles as well."

  47. BigBadBear

Nassau Suffolk Senior game on LI this weekend…apparently a massive event

  48. lax 16

    Joe

If tryouts are the key a lot of the names you mentioned are not impressive at all. Some of the kids who over the year have had good seasons and have been mentioned on the blogs look much better than some of the so called big names you mentioned in yor first response.Good luck to all the kids and congrats on making the final 40

  49. Slacrosse

    lax 16,

Been to a number of the practices which are very intense and comprehensive. Yes a number of ""name" players will def be on the team for (in my opinion) deservedly good reasons.

But this is a very good chance for the lesser talked about kids to show their stuff and hopefully the coaches will choose among these kids if they have the ability to be on the team.

Yeah I know its not "perfect" but it does appear to me that the coaches are intensely and consistently watching these kids so hopefully they'll have enough to see to make the best decision they can to pot out the BEST team.

  50. goalie camp

    joe

Are you going to the scrim on wed you should, see for yourself.

  51. HV Empires

Hmmm…big names from big programs not playing well proves how lax is a true team sport and that good coaching is, in general, underappreciated.

The flip side is having players willing and able to play within a system and sacrifice some stats for team play. ESG selection is a tough challenge because of the need to balance and blend individual skills with team concepts. Superior athletes with stick skills should be able to morph within a system. However, last year it didn't occur until the final game.
