The rumor mill has been buzzing the past few days that Yorktown all-America midfielder John Ranagan was close to making his college decision.
Those rumors can now be put to rest because the junior has made his choice.

Ranagan told us tonight he has given an oral commitment to attend Johns Hopkins. Among the schools he also considered: Hofstra, UMass, Colgate and Albany. Ranagan can make the commitment official in the fall signing period in November by signing a binding National Letter of Intent.
We’ll be back with more info.

That’s awesome. Congrats John. Great choice and way to represent Section One lax.
By the way – I heard Roy Colsey is leaving Greeley for Ridgefield but its not official.
Congratulations to John. Hopkins is a great school for him academically and athletically.
We will have more on this of course, but for now, I will just say I don’t think any player progressed more from the start of the season to the end than Ranagan.
In the early part of this year, he was a very good player.
By the end, he was absolutely dominating games, manhandling the opposition with his tremendous size. He also has great stick skills.
As Dave Marr said after his performance against Lakeland/Panas in the Section 1 final, “Ranagan is a beast.”
No argument here (and clearly, from Hopkins either).
That’s messed up JGold. I’ve been calling Ranagan a beast since April …
Congrats to The Beast. Next year you will rule Section I and Yorktown will win a state title.
I agree with Syracuse. I saw Ranagan in the opener vs. Shenendehowa and he looked every bit as impressive from Day 1 as he did in the last game vs. Syosset, I will say he improved greatly from last year to this year.
when will the senior game rosters be released?
Congratulations to John, and to his mom and dad ! Has to be a great feeling to be “wanted” by such a great program as Hopkins !
Will be interesting to see where the following Juniors from Town will be playing ball in college. All had very good Junior years, and should be getting interest from some pretty good programs:
Michael Bonitatibus, G
Brendan Brunelle, D, LSM
Brett Cabriele, D, LSM
Tom Casey, A
John Fennessey, D (Towson ?)
Ethan Fox, D, LSM
Cody, Hanlon, SSDM
Liam McCarthy, M
And look for Matt Pappas to garner some attention, based on what he can do as an offensive middie.
This is great for Town, but more importantly great for Section 1. The more players Section 1 can put into top notch programs now(just as John Jay has done in recent years), the more recruiting attention the players of the future will have.
Can’t wait to see where the top Juniors from the other schools are going !
Congrats to the Ranangan Family
John has been consistent from Day 1 of this season.
Wish him all the best, a fine young man that eats, breathes and lives lacrosse and the amazing “program” of the historic Ytown tradition
YTown boys will be in the weight room as soon as exams are over. Getting ready & gearing up for ‘09
Good luck John
Joe
Is the Section 1 senior bowl game tonight ? Any Information .
Heard the game is at Ytown tonight at 6pm.
John Ranagan has put his heart in everything he has done since he was a kid. He will be a great addition to the Hopkin’s program but most of all, John will take full advantage of the great education he will receive. Enjoy it all, John!
Joe Lombo,
Did we get the All-League and Coach of the year selections?
Heard that Yorktown 2009 Captains are:
John Ranagan
John Fennessy
Ethan Fox
Michael Bonitatibus
Kevin Interlicchio
Cant wait to see what collages they all end up at!
Congratulations on your committment. Great school, great lax!
at least we got to see a barn burner of a class A section championship game this year… really close.. for about 4 and a half minutes
They should all go to Cuse so they can get at least 1 nat’l title….sorry, it had to be said. Let’s face it The Cuse is the place to be for winning it all…
Congrats John! Would love to see some more of your teamates follow you!!
Joe any updates on where the other kids are going for Town?? K.I ???
Ric B knows the score …
‘cuse,
You’re seriously taking credit for calling him a “beast” when you can never get out of work to come to games like Yorktown/John Jay and state semifinals? Lame.
Still love you though.
We posted the all-league and coach of the year selections a week and a half ago. Just scroll down and you will find the threads.
As for Kevin Interlicchio’s potential college choices, he’s still a sophomore, so college coaches may not contact him until Sept. 1 of his junior year, under NCAA rules. Once that date comes however, things should move very quickly. That is always the case now with the top-rated juniors nationally. College programs will recruit them aggressively and push for an oral commitment.
And there’s little doubt he will wind up playing at a program at the highest level both competitively and academically. (Kevin is also a very good student.) If I had to name a few programs right now where I think he could end up, I would throw out these: Hopkins, Princeton, Virginia and Duke. Duke could be intriguing if John Danowski winds up retiring in the next few weeks and a new coach aggressively pursues Interlicchio. But right now, given its Yorktown connections, I would say Hopkins has to have a leg up on the others. I project he will make an oral commitment before the end of this calendar year.
Joe-
Do you really think KI is going to get those kinds of major looks? I do think he deserves it, hes been playing on a nationally pristine team and started and contributed since from a very young age. However, I dont mean to bring any negativity to this blog or a player, but I don’t see him being able to play quite on the level of Duke, Hopkins, Virginia…I think those teams recruit so many kids that he wouldnt see playing time until later in his College career. Like JoJo, maybe going to an up and coming might be better. Just my two cents, KI is a great player and a really good kid. Plus, the kid has trememendous upside, I think right now hes a little one dimensional with his left hand, but sometimes I forget hes just a SOPHOMORE! Pretty amazing. He doesnt seem like the most talented kid on their roster, but man I sware when he gets the ball he is so determined to score its like talent is a non factor…he almost always scores or makes something happen when he attacks GLE at full speed.
Good luck to Ranagan! Town is proud of you.
Section One,
I have been told that KI is one of the smartest players that the Yorktown Coaching staff has coached. Not only that but hes a great leader, a junior captain. All the talent in the world, putting up 80 points in a sophmore year against teams like, Mcdongh, Darien, Chaminade, St.Anthonys, JJ, L/P, Wilton, Niskayuna, Syosset. From what Joe says hes also a very smart kid, so I do believe that he could play at one of those major programs.
Joe,
do you know if anyone from section one was invited to jake reeds camp
I would make the bet right now that KI goes to Hofstra or Hopkins. A pipe line has opened up for both of them to town. I don’t recall of any y-town players going to Duke or Virginia, he could be the first though.
Section one,
KI is one of the most saught out recruits now in not just the state but the country….80+ pts as a sophmore is amzing (especially against the schedule they play), all section as a sophomore, started as a freshman FOR Yorktown, hattrick state semi game, captain as a junior for next season, great grades and oh yea prob has a chance to break some sort of record AT YORKTOWN!! i think hes pretty good….
my guess Hofstra, Hopkins, Duke, UNC
KI will be top 5 juniors in country next year, no doubt….

I agree with section one a little. KI is a nasty player with his left hand, but i don’t see his right hand being that strong. has he made an outside shot with his right hand this year? He is a great feeder, but a lot of his goals was not him creating off of a dodge. A lot of his goals were Rocky B. creating a slide and dumping off to KI to rip. Don’t get me wrong, KI is an unbelievable player but he has to work on some more of his game which he can since he is a Sophomore!
Kevin is certaintly a very gifted player, will maybe be one of Yorktowns best…..look at all three goals in the state semi finals with syossets best dman on him lol all dodging hard, with his RIGHT hand…. kid is just a sophomore, gonna end up somewhere big but lets first let him enjoy H.S and take care of business for the Huskers…
Yea KI puts up unreal numbers and i ahve a ton of respect for him… But I’d take ranagan froats and rocky over him in terms of importance and what he can bring to a team. KI would not see PT at Duke, UVa, Hopkins…Which is not anything to be ashamed of…some of the best playres in our state dont, due to the ridiculous caliber of players and specialized jobs each player has.
umm “laxerr”....i think when u have the type of lax resume Interlichio has, its a bit foolish to say that he wouldnt play at top 5 schools…Look at what he has done in 2yrs for YORKTOWN,,,most kids dont expose their dominance till their senior year in HS…He’s still quite a far way from there….From what I am told (from very strong sources), “KI” is going to be one of the top 5 most recruited juniors in the country…Every d1coach kinda likes when a 15yr old can already shoot 90 into corners and have a dominant vision of the field….
I’m hearing rumors that many underclassman (including many names referenced in these blogs) were not asked back to the HV ESG tryouts) – any confirmed reports?
Joe, Nice job with Ranagan! Husker Fans appreciate it!!
Kevin Interlicchio will go wherever he wants to go, he’s def deserved it…
Perhaps he follows his neighbor down to Baltimore??
