GC – RP 1-1 end of one

  2. Syracuse

GC 1, Rocky Point 1, 4 minutes to go in 2nd

  3. LAX

Thanks for the update Syracuse, been a while since one on the LI blog… I guess that's because no one's scored since the 1st quarter. Surprised it's such a low scoring game.

  4. LAX

Nice job JJ, good to see some subs scoring against this team, they'll need their starters for tomorrow.

  5. LAX

    This is getting interesting:
"Matt Palasek scores off a feed from his brother, Tom, with 2:54 left in the second quarter. Rocky Point leads, 2-1."

Looks like the Palasek brothers are legit, and so is RP.

  6. LAX

"Tom Palasek scored on a run from the right across crease. Rocky Point up 4-3 with 5:30 left."

The Palasek's are almost single-handedly beating GC right now, Tom has 3 of the 4 and an assist to his brother Matt for the other goal.

  7. LAX

Thanks for the updates Joe, put the stats up when possible. I hope JJ's starters are fresh for tomorrow's game.

  8. LAX

"Tom Palasek hits Matt Palasek on the crease for the game winner. Rocky Point wins 8-7 in double overtime."

Absolutely incredible. I guess you were right Syracuse, Rocky Point is Legit, and the Palasek's dominate.

Game plan for JJ – Stop the Palasek brothers.

  9. game day

any one know who won garden city- RP?

  10. stickalong

Tom Palasek hits Matt Palasek on the crease for the game winner. Rocky Point wins 8-7 in double overtime.

  11. game day

    oh sorry, thanks

  12. section one

i told ya'll the Palasek's are legit…I played against their travel team, Long Island Express and met their father at the Battle of the Hotbeds…They were unbelievable, both going to hopkins, and Hopkins rarely recruits outside of the plethora of talent in MD area. Awesome kids, awesome game, look forward to seeing what the Jay defense can do to stop them…GO SECTION 1!!!

  13. LAX

  14. JJ-RP

i think JJ has a big advantage tomorrow.
RP just played an all out double OT game versus Garden city
JJ's starters didnt play past the end of the first quarter
i wouldnt be surprised if that makes a big difference in tomorrows semifinal

  15. Syracuse

That's a good point ususally, but this is the state tournament. They'll be hopped up on adrenaline alone …

  16. Syracuse

You will see firewagon lax on Thursday.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the JJ-RP winner needs 15 goals to win.

Yorktown-Syosset could also be a shootout. Both teams just survived grueling defensive battles.

These are exciting and, at the same time, perplexing matchups for both teams because we just don't know a hell of a lte about either opponent.

My guess is Yorktown and Jay have never played Syosset and Rokcy Point, respectively. I guess that will just add to the intrigue.

There's really no way to predict these games so I'm staying away from even trying to guess.

  17. game day

    yes,
the jj RP game will be very high-scoring. I think that the winning team will need to score at least 13 goals to win.

  18. Vin D'Andraia

'Cuse, rarely am I serious on here and even more rare that I disagree with you, but I think JJ has a big edge having played an easier game today. Hopefully, it's a big advantage for them tomorrow. Faceoffs will be key, as always! I wish Ytown had a 15 goal win and was able to rest that midfield line. Either way, I hope all 3 Section One teams go out and play the best they can tomorrow. Leave it all on the turf. Good luck!!!!

  19. LAX

Pretty exciting stuff on the Island, and the 3 teams that I thought would win (WI, GC, Manhasset) all didn't win, though we still don't know who'll win class C (still 0, 0 atm). But of course it isn't over, they still have to face the 3 best teams Section 1 has to offer. I think JJ has a better chance against RP than GC because RP doesn't have as good defense. JJ basically has to worry about the Palaseks above everything else, but if the GC defense couldn't contain them It'll be tough for JJ, but if they succeed in doing that JJ will win.

  20. Slacrosse

    CSH/MS game under way

  21. LAX

Here's the JJ stats if anyone wants to see them:

Seems like most of the time JJ played their subs.

  22. Syracuse

Yo Vin … Disagree with me again and I'm taking back my autographed Ric B picture that you keep by your bed. :)

  23. Slacrosse

game started at 8:38 keep hitting refresh but no score yet?

  24. Jeff Gold

Some of the info has been put here already, but here you have it once more in case it isn't clear how the Rocky Point-Garden City game ended with an 8-7 Rocky Point win in double overtime.

Apparently, it was an unbelievable ending. I spoke to my man Joe "Coach K" Staszewski who works for Newsday and was at the game.

The score was tied 6-6 before Hopkins-bound Tom Palasek scored with seven seconds left to put Rocky Point up 7-6. Garden City won the ensuing faceoff and Francis McDonough, Garden City's all-American middie who is going to Georgetown, took a pass from Dan Savage and ran down the field to tie the score with one second left in regulation.

In double overtime, Palasek found his brother Matt, a junior who is also headed to Hopkins, from behind the cage for the winner and the insanity began.

  25. Slacrosse

    MS 1-0—could be in 2Q?

  26. Syracuse

    Mt. Sinai 1-0

  27. Slacrosse

    that was man up goal

  28. LAX

" Mike Chapman dives and scores to make it 2-0 for Mt. Sinai with 9:45 left in the first half."

  29. Slacrosse

    2-0 MS 9:45 to go in 2Q

  30. Syracuse

Mt. Sinai's coach is a genius. Everything the guy touches turns into gold …

  31. Slacrosse

Cold Spring Harbor takes a time out with 2:00 left. The Seahawks have taken just three shots so far in te half.

  32. Syracuse

Rye may win 1-0 in OT Thursday …

  33. Slacrosse

just 3 shots by CSH—no , cant be true!

  34. Slacrosse

Time out Mt. Sinai with :28 seconds left.

  35. Slacrosse

GOAL—Mike Chapman scores with eight seconds left to give Mount Sinai a 3-0 lead.

  36. james

no matter who wins this game, tomorows game is gonna be great

  37. Slacrosse

    Start of the Third

  38. Old Timer

    Hope Rye scouted Chapman :)

  39. Slacrosse

GOAL— Jonathan Hoeg scores on a pass from Mike Chapman to give Mount Sinai a 4-0 lead.

  40. Slacrosse

GOAL— Henry scores to extend the lead to 5-0.

  41. Syracuse

Wow. I thought this game would be a 1-goal affair either way. I think we overrate Manhasset every year. In fact, I'm convinced of it now.

  42. LAX

never expected this from a team I've never even heard of until this year…

  43. NYLax10

I like Section 1's chances tommorrow, hopefully that doesn't jinx them.

  44. LAX

"GOAL— DelBalso scored to make it 6-1 Mount Sinai. Langton had scored or Mount Sinai."

  45. Slacrosse

GOAL— DelBalso scored to make it 6-1 Mount Sinai. Langton had scored or Mount Sinai.

  46. Syracuse

LAX—It's because of the pure genius of Joe Cuozzo.

  47. Slacrosse

MT. SINAI WINS LONG ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP; WILL MEET RYE THURSDAY

Things got a little crazy for us on deadline, but this one was never in doubt for Mt. Sinai. They won, 9-3, overmatching an experienced Cold Spring Harbor team. Joe Staszweski has the story in tomorrow's edition of Newsday. We've given you all that we can folks! Hope you've enjoyed. Goodnight and see you tomorrow.

  48. Old Timer

    Newsday agrees

    From Newsday
"Joe Cuozzo, whose leadership helped catapult Ward Melville into prominence in the 1970s and 80s, Thursday night coached Mount Sinai to a 15-6 victory over No. 2 Glenn in the Suffolk Class C title game, the Mustangs' first lacrosse county championship. And so Cuozzo, who will play for his 16th Long Island championship Tuesday, may find it increasingly difficult to deny his genius"
"Mount Sinai built an impressive résumé in the regular season, Cuozzo's second at his new school. Narrowly losing to the offensive juggernaut that is Rocky Point, the Mustangs posted wins over Nassau playoff teams Wantagh and Long Beach and Suffolk Class B finalist Comsewogue. The tough schedule, Cuozzo said, was meant to replicate the schedule of a team with more big-game experience.
"

Chapman transferring in from Sachem East didn't hurt either

  49. WoodlawnGuy

How did the JJ second string defense look? MaxPreps only lists offensive stats, but if subs were in for 3 quarters it looks like JJ subs outscored SGF 10-1. Did SFG leave starters in for entire game?

  50. LAXER!

where is chapman playing in colllege????

  51. Slacrosse

    WoodlawnGuy,

No disrespect to SGF who had a good season and played their hearts out today (they only had about 6 extra players). But they were so tremendously outclassed that it would not be meaningful in this particular game to base any impression on how JJ's subs played. Put it this way, JJ's JV team could have won fairly easily.

  52. WoodlawnGuy

    Slacrosse,

ok, thanks. I know a kid who is a sub on the JJ team (I know his family actually), and was just wondering bc as far as I can tell the subs don't seem to get to play that much.
