Today’s the day, gang.

By the end of the day, three Section 1 teams will be headed to the state tournament.

Rye celebration
Last year, the Rye Garnets celebrated their third straight Class C sectional final win against Putnam Valley. Today, they hope to make it four titles in a row. This time, their opponent will be Byram Hills. (Angela Gaul/Journal News file photo)

To get in the spirit of things, be sure to check out an RNN segment I taped on Tuesday afternoon with Kevin Devaney Jr. previewing the games and exploring which No. 1 seed has the best chance of getting upset. Here’s the link. The segment runs about two and a half minutes.

You can also check out a preview of today’s sectional finals that appears today in The Journal News and on LoHud.com. Here’s that link.

Here’s what on tap for John Jay High School in Cross River today. Be sure to check here during the day for live scoring updates.

Why can't Sect 1 stagger its championships so that the real sports fan can see more than 1 event. Lacrosse on Wed, softball semies on Thurs. and baseball finalson Friday.Than the softball finals on Sat. If you have 2 children playing different sports, you must make a hard decision as to which one to see.

joe b – You make a good point. This time of year though there is not a lot of time to get the games in and make sure they are completed prior to the state tournament. There will be unavoidable comments. Last night, I was at the Con Ed dinner and one of the recipients, Lakeland/Panas' Chelsea Robinson, was unable to attend because the Rebels' girls lax team were in Albany playing in the state tournament. We talked about the conflicts with proms too. But your point is well-taken.

    Couple of things folks.
The all-section list is still with the coaches. Once it is typed up and forwarded it to me, I will pass it along. As I've said. When I have it, you'll have it.

Also – the senior all-star game will be held on Monday, June 16 at 7 p.m. at Yorktown High School.

  3. Syracuse

The biggest issue with the lax playoffs is the week off between the sectionals semifinals and final. It's completely unnecessary. I realize the idea is to give teams time to prepare and you don't want sectional champs taking a week off before states begins, but there has to be a way of shortening up the down time between one and lengthening a bit the down time with the other. It's up to Section I to decide because the state tournament will never be moved unless there is some unforseen event, like ridiculously severe weather or something else.

  4. 12rock

Ah look who it is everyone mr bigshot, 12rock, crawling out from under his rock, with all his wrong predictions and all. Well why don't you just go back under the rock you came from , and DO let that rock hit you.. you know where.. Hence not before my 2 cents … B Hills nice game at the Valley job well done .. two times on away field. Very different season, alot of surprises and ups and downs. I guess an indication of the growth of the game. The field is STARTING to level somewhat.

Just a feel i will pick Brewster on an upset … then go Town -solid . Last Rye by a slight edge . Congrats to all involved nice job …good luck to all teams

About the author
Joe Lombardi Joe Lombardi did not become familiar with lacrosse until after graduating from both Irvington High School and the University of Dayton Ñ neither of which offered the sport. But it didn't take him long to take a liking to lacrosse since it combines elements of several of his favorite sports: basketball, hockey and football. In addition to serving as local sports editor of The Journal News and LoHud.com, he also writes the weekly "Catching up with...":http://lohud.com/catchingup feature that appears on Tuesdays. Joe can also be seen each Monday during the school year on RNN's "NewsCenter Now," providing a look at the week ahead in local sports, as well as on "Varsity Central Extra," which appears on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.
