    IM CALLIN IT…UPSET TIME…byram 9 rye 8 in OT

  2. laxer47689

joe, what gives? you are obviously not a big fan of byram hills high school..9-3 seems a little iffy, not to mention you had byram losing 6-5 to put valley…so much for that

btw… im not even a byram hills student/alumn…just an observation from your past predictions

    bcliff bear pride woot

  3. Joe Lombardi

laxer47689 – That's a fair point. Byram-PV was the only semi pick I got wrong, so props to the Bobcats. I thought Put Valley D's and its playoff experience would be the difference, but the Bobcats proved me wrong. But going in, I really felt it could go either way and wasn't surprised in the least that the Bobcats won.

Byram has a balanced offense with Daniel and Andrew Lohrfink, Stefan Carpintieri, Scott Fraser, Scott Green, Steven Greene and R.J. Medeo and goalie Ben Shaffer has been superb this year (including 22 saves vs. Put Valley on Friday). I also want to be sure to mention fellow goalie Evan Waldenberg, who played well in the first Put Valley game — a 7-4 Byram win.

And Jeff Fritz is certainly one of the leading contenders for Section 1 coach of the year. I can't say enough about the job he's done at Byram Hills.

So don't think because I picked the Bobcats to lose against a three-time sectional champion (Rye) and a three-time finalist (Put Valley) that I am in any way selling the Bobcats short, because that's definitely not the case.

As for Thursday's game specifically, I think a lot of good teams would lose to Rye 9-3 or a similar score. The Garnets' D is that strong. We shall see. It's good to see some folks going with the Bobcats and the upset. And it's also good to see the Bobcats a game away from playing in the state tournament for the first time since 1987.

  4. laxer47689

thanks for that, joe…means a lot

  5. Slacrosse

    laxer47689

A little too sensitive, needy! ITS NOT JOE's JOB to "be a fan of byrim hills high school" OR ANY OTHER HIGH SCHOOL.

Its only his job to call em the way he sees em and he's been "seeing em" pretty well.

BH is playing well. Good luck to them on TH. They're gonna have their hands full.

  6. jay laxer

Jay assualted Byram Hills, Jay lost to Rye.

  7. Sec 1 lax fan

L/P may be only 'upset' in the making. Not saying it will happen, but only chance of the 3 games going the other way.

They have a strong attack and must play ball control game from goal line extended on down and work Town D. If it goes double digits, I think Town wins by 3. If it stays in single digits – may go OT.

Jay – Brewster interesting match up on paper, but JJ will be primed for this game and it could by over by half time. Not a knock on Brewster, but credit to JJ coaching.

Rye – Bcliff will by close for a quarter or two, but outcome not in doubt. Too much bog game experience on Rye side and good in-game adjustments.

  8. VAS

Jay is alot like Ytown last year.

They really didn't have a great season, but come
Playoffs and the State Tournament, and they put it all
together, even giving eventual State Champion W.Islip
    a game. They were great.
Look for same from Jay. JJ 16 – B 6

  9. Miller

Will the All League/All Section be announced this week?

  10. Joe Lombardi

Miller – After the selections are made Tuesday night, the list of names has to be double-checked by coaches for spellings, etc., but we hope to have it sometime this week.
When we have it, you'll have it.

  11. laaxer1010

    jay laxer –

you cant look at games like that, its pointless…

look at rye and jj vs hen hud

jay just recently beat hen hud 22-4

jay lost to rye, so rye should beat hen hud by more right?

sorry, 5-4 in OT…you cant look at games that way, its useless

  12. laaxer1010

my bad, TRIPLE OT…makes my point even clearer

  13. laaxer1010

    Joe –

Does being in a higher, more competitive league (1 I-A, II-A) ensure that your team receives more all-league/all-section honors?

  14. Man Up

Joe I gotta go with your picks.

This was a great season of Lax with a lot of tallent. Good luck to all who go on to play at the next level !!

  15. Joe Lombardi

laaxer1010 – Most of the all-section picks are from Division A, because that's where the top teams are. Teams that do the best get the most all-section selections.

  16. Syracuse

VAS – I don't see how Jay is anything like last year's Yorktown team. That team lost 10, count 'em 10, games, including God knows how many to Section I foes, and was thought to be dead in the water.

Jay has basically been what many thought they'd be this year, the class of Class B and right there for overall sectional dominance. I don't know what your measuring stick is for what Jay should have accomplished this year, but I think they are right where they should be. And you're crazy if you think they are beating Brewster by 10.

    My picks:

    Yorktown 13, Lakeland/Panas 8
    John Jay 15, Brewster 11
    Rye 10, Byram Hills 5

L/P will push Town for a half, but the Huskers will put this game away in the 3rd. Nobody rises to the occasion more in sectionals than Yorktown.

Both JJ and Brewster have suspect defenses, especially against really good offensive teams, but each is often hidden by each team's tremendous offense. I agree … Jay is rolling a bit now and has proven itself to be a playoff program. As prolific as Brewster is with King and the rest of their seniors, they probably can't match Jay's offense over 48 minutes.

Hats off to Byram for a great, great season, but it will end on Thursday unless they score 10 goals or more. Don't see it.

  17. Raider79

    Rye 12 Byram 4
    JJ 12 Brewster 6
    Town 12 LP 5

  18. NYLax10

There is not a chance that Byram beats Rye. They may be able to stay in the game with Rye, i.e. not get blown out, but they are not going to win.

    Yorktown 12, Lakeland/Panas 9
    John Jay 13, Brewster 8
    Rye 11, Byram 4

  19. powers that be...

Why is the first game schedled at 3PM? How am I to sneak out of work today for my daughters sectional game then to Albany for the regional on Wednesday (when they win) and then to my son's game on Thurday at 3PM. Mom who wants to support my kids but needs to put food on the table.

  20. steve14

And why is the class A game the early game in every round?

  21. Joe Lombardi

Steve – They alternate the order of games each year. Last season, Class A was the late game and Class C was first.

  22. steve14

Thanks. I played for Yorktown 20 years ago and for some reason don't remember playing so early in the day!

  23. LAX

The bad news is that JJ lost 5 games this year. The good news is that JJ has the ability to beat all of the teams that they lost to. JJ had very high expectations but I wouldn't say they had a disappointingly season, hopefully they step it up in the playoffs.

Rye beat JJ in OT but they don't dominate other teams like JJ does because their offense isn't as strong as JJ's even though their defense is stronger. If JJ is somehow limited in offense by good defense (Nisky, Yorktown, Mike B) they will be beaten. But otherwise they probably have the best offense in the section which is why they can beat teams 22-4 if their offense is clicking.

  24. VAS

    syracuse;

You're right, Ytown lost 10. However, I meant that both Teams had a less than stellar season, yet Ytown put it together when it counted, and so is Jay.

    Still pick Jay 16 B 6

  25. Joe Lombardi

I agree VAS. I actually made that very analogy on last week's podcast. I didn't mean to compare the regular seasons of Yorktown of last year and John Jay of this year in terms of wins and losses but rather in terms of overall perception. Both fell short of expectations during the regular season and they both clearly realize the postseason is how they will be judged. Yorktown was clearly on a mission last season in that regard and I sense that John Jay is as well.

  26. LAX

JJ has a fairly good chance at a state title and this is definitely the time to step up. After all, it's going to be tough the next couple of years with Yorktown moving down.

  27. greenandwhite

    Joe i have a question

the ACT's are on the state final day….any chance of them moving the game times back

they did that for the murph cup game with the SATs

  28. Joe Lombardi

greenandwhite – Not sure about that. We can check. But they are locked in to the state finals dates.

  29. laxnchill

    Write this down..
    Brewster 13
    John Jay 12

    Will be a game ..

  30. Rebellyes

    Prediction Lakeland 11 Yorktown 9

Rodriguez and Fitzpatrick come up big against whoever they play against. They figured Town out in the second half of the Murphy Cup and know how to expose their weaker defenders.

Lakeland scored some easy goals in the second half as Mike B. had no chance on some of the goals. Defenders got caught out of position and were not fast enough to recover.

Town's defense lost momentum as Fennessey and Zimmel sat for a significant portion of the second half. Hope they decide to rest them again.

    GO REBELS!

  31. STRONGISLAND

Yorktown wins by at least 4-5 goals. Rye blows Byram out of the water and Jay wins by 4-5 goals.

  32. kierand

lakeland will beat yorktown…doerty and fitz are a freight train from hell

  33. laxnchill

    Yorktown 11
    Lakeland 9

    Rye 10
    Byram 4

  34. Lax08

Jay is a good team and beat Brewster pretty bad first time around (16-6). If you were there, though, you would have seen that Brewster held up with them first half. They have grown throughout the season and are more than ready to take on Jay. Excpect this to be a game down to the wire.

  35. Brutus

    Yorktown-12

    Lake/Pan- 9

    John Jay-13
    Brewster-10

    Rye-12
    Byram-7

  36. laxer2maxer

all three of those cuties from brewster up there made all-section. congrats boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. Syracuse

    Section 2 final: Nisky-Shaker

Shaker beat Shen 9-5 or something like that. Nisky killed Colonie. Should be aninteresting final because Shaker is rolling. Big Long Island games tonight. I'll post scored when I know …

  38. Syracuse

UPDATE: Garden City 10, South Side 9 (4th)

  39. Syracuse

UPDATE: Garden City 12, South Side 9 (3 to go in 4th)

  40. Syracuse

Syosset was beating Long Beach something like 15-5 late

  41. Syracuse

FINAL: Syosset 19, Long Beach 7

  42. Syracuse

FINAL: Garden City 13, South Side 10

  43. Slacrosse

    Syracuse,

Wow. I figured Syosset to win but expected it to be a pretty close game!

  44. Syracuse

Yeah, that's impressive, but I don't think it will matter much because I can't imagine Melville or Islip losing to the Nassau rep.

  45. Syracuse

UPDATE: Cold Spring Harbor 3, Manhasset 2 (3 to go in 1st), driving storm conditions at Hofstra

  46. amond

    who knows the all-section selections??

  47. Slacrosse

    Syracuse,

IF CSH wins and IF Rye gets there I'd be feeling, relatively speaking, ALOT better about Rye taking CSH then Manhassat. Still of course very tough but rather have CSH then Man. You?

  48. lacrosse

Cuse- please kepe updating that time and score that game sounds like itll be a close one.

  49. Slacrosse

Was 7-3 CSH 2:29 to go in 1st half

  50. Slacrosse

    9-4 CSH at half-won 10 of 13 faceoffs!!

  51. Syracuse

WOW! Sla …. I was just gonna post that very same thing. I would say CSH knocked out Manhasset last year, too, so regardless of who you face, it will be a formidable foe.

  52. lacrosse

Thanks slacrosse for all of this great info.

  53. Slacrosse

Cuse, aint over yet but maybe I take back waht I said about CSH above!

  54. Slacrosse

    Cuse,

    Thats for sure!

  55. Syracuse

FINAL: Skaneateles 11, CBA 7. You're looking at Corning East-Skan in one half of the bracket and maybe CSH-Rye in the other. Wow is all I can say.

  56. L@X

any score update on MAN-CSH game???????

  57. Slacrosse

    10-4 CSH-looks like start of 2nd half

  58. Syracuse

    UPDATE: CSH 10, Manhasset 4 (early 3rd)

  59. Slacrosse

    10-6 6:33 to go in 3rd

  60. Slacrosse

    11-6 2:32 to in 3rd

  61. Syracuse

    FINAL: Carthage 10, Jamesville-DeWitt 6

In girls state regional action, Nisky beat Yorktown 13-12

  62. Slacrosse

Ghitelman has 4 for CSH so far

  63. Slacrosse

    11-7 CSH 7 min to go 4th

  64. LAX

Wow… in my opinion big break for Rye if CSH pulls it off. Too bad JD lost now if JJ happens to get to the state finals they can't get revenge but that's not important.

Apparently Manhasset beat CSH 10-5 less than a month ago huge win for CSH.

  65. Slacrosse

CSH Man should be over by now-but no update yet

  66. Slacrosse

Looks like the update guy may hgave signed off. Nothing since the 10:12 update!

  67. Slacrosse

Looks like final is 12-8 CSH!!

  68. Slacrosse

3rd yr in row that CSH has beaten Man in playoffs

  69. Syracuse

12-8 CSH. Manhasset, man, I do not want to hear about them anymore.

  70. laxer

There is no chance for rye to be upset by byram hills.

  71. laxer

There is no chance for rye to be upset by byram hills. Rye's defense will overpower byram hills.
