Hot topic: Your final four picks

May
29

Well, folks. We have the matchups.

I’ve also officially gone on the record with my picks.

stefan

Now, it’s your turn.

Can Stefan Carpentieri help Byram Hills end a long drought by making it back to the sectional finals? To do it, the Bobcats would have to pick up their second win of the season against a Put Valley team that’s been to the finals three straight year. (Photo by Mike Roy/The Journal News)

Let’s hear your thoughts, game scenarios, and of course, score predictions.

Let’s also hear who you think some individual stars will be in each of the six games.

Also, be sure to tune in tonite for our half-hour semifinal preview at 6:30 to “Varsity Central Extra” on RNN-TV.

That’s Channel 19 or 6 in Westchester and Rockland, Channel 20 in Putnam and Channel 62 on DirecTV.

You can call in with any comments or questions too. Just call 1-888-RNN-CHAT.

  1. Brewster

Just a note… the Brewster Bears have dedicated their sectional games to Tony Stroud, dad of Drew Stubbs-Stroud who passed away last summer after a very long battle with cancer.

  2. sectionsemis

the byram-put valley game should be a true battle and i would be surprised if the game is decided by more than one or two goals. i think this game, as many others are, will be decided by faceoffs. whichever team can control the ball for more time will definitely be better off. also another key matchup will be the putnam valley attack vs. byram hills close defense. the heart of pvs offense is the attack and the heart of byrams defense is their close defenders. should be a great game and i am real excited. will there be anyone from the paper there joe?

  3. bury

bhills has the easiest road to a sectional final is so many years..its ridiculous

  4. Syracuse

Joe, JGold—I'm getting an error message for the "matchups" link …

  5. Syracuse

I just don't see any upsets in the Class A or B semifinals, as much as that would stir the pot and create chaos on this blog … But in C, expect tighter-than-usual games with Nos. 1 and 3 emerging.

    Class A:

    L/P by 5-plus over Greeley
    Yorktown by 7-plus over Mahopac

    Class B:

    Brewster by 3 over Somers
JJ by 7-plus over Hen Hud

    Class C:

    Rye by 2 over P'ville
Byram Hills by 1 over PV

  6. 12rock

bury—- if your one of the players, careful of what you say about opponents (roads being easy) you MAY have to eat those words dry. If your not on the team ….why stir sh*t up ..when theres no need. So i take it you are saying the Valley should be a cake walk ?...

  7. baller897

12rock – i can assure you that no one on byram hills made that comment, that comment was made by an observer outside of the team. the byram hills players have the utmost respect for all of their opponents and they know that the game tomorrow will be the battle of their lives. like joe said the putnam valley players have been here before, the byram players havent. im looking forward to a great game. good luck to all teams playing tomorrow.

  8. Joe Lombardi

'Cuse – Sorry about that. The link has been repaired and is now working.

BTW – I have confirmed all the games tomorrow are 4:30 p.m. starts.

  9. LAX

Congratulations to Matt Bocklet for being selected 15th overall by the Washington Bayhawks in the MLL draft. IL states that Bocklet might be one of the best defensemen on the ground and with a stick to come out of college in a while and a nice addition for the Bayhawks. If he was selected only a pick earlier he would have joined his older brother on the LI Lizards. Nice job representing John Jay.

  10. laxerr

Joe- waht were your pics icant see them on the link you posted andi missed the TV airing????????????

  11. Joe Lombardi

laxerr – Went with Yorktown, L/P, John Jay and Rye by comfortable margins.
In the two tightest games, I took Put Valley over Byram 6-5 and Brewster over Somers 11-8.

  12. Seniorlaxfan

Looks like the games to watch Friday are Class C.
Putnam Valley is playing much better Lacrosse than they were when BH beat them half way through the season. Watch for the Super Sophmores to lead the way to the Sections Finals. If Johnny the Kid, 13Rock, Fitzy, and the most recent Kelly, bring the "K" game, it`s gonna be live in PV. Besides, Niles K Mohawk will be there, they can`t lose.

(I am not a fan, that is an honest unbiased observation)
Good Luck BH, may the team with the most Irishmen win.
    (Landi IS an honorary Irishman)

  13. younggun

The pac is not being taken serious enough

  14. asdf fan

mahopac didn't have ahlers when they played yorktown, right?

yorktown will be in for a surprise. go indians wooo

  15. Syracuse

The 'Pac is going to meet its maker on Friday.

  16. ???

Pac will become the maker. watch out Town. I heard the Pac is fired up and ready to play. The Pac always plays Town tough in the playoffs. 2006 1 goal game. Watch for Ahlers to have a big game in only his second game back from his jaw injury. the kid dominated Ranagen in their first match up. Pac is a good team that gets overlooked because of their season last year.

  17. Joe Lombardi

Some breaking news from the college lax world …

Syracuse attackman Mike Leveille was just named winner of the Tewaaraton Trophy as men's college lax player of the year. SU now becomes the first school to have an award winner three time. Leveille joins '02 and '04 winner Mikey Powell. The award has been in existence since '01.

  18. LoveTownLax

asdf fan – LTL did a little research, if you look back on Joe's post-game report on April 12, you will see that he credited Kyle Ahlers with a goal. Not saying tomorrow night's game won't be a good one, but won't have the surprise you were hoping for. See you tomorrow :o)

??? – are you thinkin' Town isn't fired up?

  19. town-pac

town will steam roll pac into the section finals. ahlers did dominate ranegan in the first game… but ytown has fixed that problem by adding in some new players. ranegan farrel nad cabrile are all taking faceoffs and doing good. watch for towns offense to kick it into high gear and score a lot of goals against an inexpirienced goalie.

  20. Slacrosse

    Syracuse,

Surprised your only picking rye to win by 2 goals!

    Make that at least 5!

  21. Popeye

I want to congratulate Hen Hud on a great win yesterday. They came to play and win. They had total ball control in the 4th quarter and did not run up the score to pad their stats like most other teams. Fox Lane kept it clean to the end. Great job Sailors.

  22. UNC

as much as i'd like mahopac to win they won't.

  23. G-lax

pac will get smoked by town

  24. s10580

    Joe,
Iam on vacation, currently in Barcelona, and am following the Section. 1 lax playoffs via the blog on my Blackberry. Will return in time to hopefully watch all three Section 1 champs in the State quarter-finals at Yorktown and later at Hofstra. Keep up the good work. .

  25. 12rock

HEY Senior hope your right , and check out Niles nice convertable ride to go with that mohawk …nice
Good luck to all teams today

  26. Section 1

Pacs goalie has a season under his belt now. I wouldn't call 65% save percentage and 7 goals against inexpierenced anymore. Last time they met YES i would agree. Today is going to be a different story.

  27. Bibi

The Brewster Bears showed a lot of guts and grace against the Nyack Indians – a very young team they could easily have slaughtered. Instead they showed how great lacrosse is played. Fast and tight. Uneven – sure, but still a lot fun to watch. Looking forward to a John Jay Brewster match-up.

  28. fox lane fan

Congrats to Hen Hud – it was as Popeye said.

  29. Laxxer

    Section 1:

I agree that the PAC goalie should be comfortable between the pipes, and that will help PAC this afternoon. However, in the first meeting, Ranagan was a novice at faceoffs. With a full season under his belt, I think the matchup with Ahlers will be great. Still give the nod to Ahlers because of his overall experience, but I'm not sure if PAC will be able to control the game from the faceoff X the way that many think could happen.

Although Town should be more conderned with Perrelle around the crease, the play of Brunelle, Cabrielle, Fennessey and Fox has been strong as of late.

Should be a great match-up, and it should be no surprise to anyone if this game is a 2-4 goal game, not the 7-goal game in the first meeting.

  30. hud lax

    town by 9

  31. Section 1

Laxxer Good point about 44 being more experienced at face offs as well. Should be a good game. everyone expecting a blow out has not been watching lacrosse this year. If you remember last game it was tied with 50sec left in the 1st half and town stuck two goals. That took the air out of Pac. I expect better goalie play this time.

  32. Joe Lombardi

s10580 – Thanks for checking in from Spain. That's great to hear you're following the sectionals here with us.
Hope to hear back from you soon. Enjoy your trip.

  33. Karl (Hush) Jorda

    Go Somers and Byram Hills

  34. G-lax

    pac?

  35. LoveTownLax

hud lax – good pick – you got it exactly right! what's the line for Thursday?
