We will be keeping an eye on the MLL collegiate draft, which will be held tomorrow night. It is set for 8:30 p.m. and will follow the Warrior Major League Challenge at Stevens Tech in New Jersey.
The challenge is an all-star game played using MLL rules that will include colleges seniors who earned invitations.
As for the draft, the Chicago Machine, where former Somers star Rob Smith now plays, have the No. 1 pick. Who will they take? Hopkins’ Paul Rabil? Duke’s Matt Danowski? Or will they trade the pick?
Also of note today, the University of North Carolina announced coach John Haus will not be returning. The Tar Heels made the NCAA tournament this season but were barely over .500 during his eight-year tenure, which obviously prompted the move. He has been on the hot seat for several years. “Here’s more.”:http://tarheelblue.cstv.com/sports/m-lacros/spec-rel/052708aaa.html
Yorktown products Matthias and Tim McCall play for UNC, as did their older brother, Mike, and another brother combo — Stephen and Andrew McElduff of Yorktown.

Mike Dougherty has been covering sports in the Lower Hudson Valley for the last 20 years. After writing extensively about local high school and college athletics for The Journal News and LoHud.com, he spent a decade on the Knicks beat. Mike has also filed stories from the Final Four, NBA Finals, U.S. Open, PGA Championship and World Series. He graduated from Slippery Rock University after spending two years at Kennedy Catholic in Somers and now lives in Brewster.
