Tomorrow are the sectional quarterfinal-round games.
Today is a state championship.

In the CHSAA that is.
Iona Prep is playing Holy Trinity for the CHSAA Class A state title at Chaminade High School in Mineola.
It’s been a storybook season for the Gaels, but a win today may be a tall order.
Holy Trinity lost by just two goals to Chaminade in the Long Island CHSAA semis.
Chaminade, which won its fourth straight Long Island CHSAA title by beating St. Anthony’s in OT, defeated Iona Prep 16-6 earlier this season and is ranked 14th in the nation by Inside Lacrosse.

Best wishes to Iona Prep. You are basically a Section I team so go out there and crack some skulls …

How is it that Holy Trinity lost to Chaminade, yet IP is playing Holy Trinity? Why does the CHSAA tourney work this way?
any score so far?
yeah im confused. how they lose in the semi's but are playing for state finals?
Maybe because Chaminade and St. Anthony's are considered B schools by enrollment is my best guess.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Chaminade and St. Anthony's are both big schools, bigger than JJ or Yorktown, I think they'll be in A. I'm a little confused too, why would HT play in the finals after losing to Chaminade in the semis.
Folks, final score: Holy Trinity 19-15. Just got back into the office, and I'll be back with more later. As to why this game was the CHSAA Class A state championship…well, the CHSAA just works that way…if you lose in the AA playoffs, you move down. I don't have a better answer than that as of now.
Jeez … does anyone in the CHSAA actually play defense? Hey Iona, nice season.
Well I guess Chaminade and St. Anthonys are in AA then and HT moved down… I can't believe how high scoring that was nice season Iona.
Gold/Joe- Where will the games after the section finals be held???
By that i mean the round right after the section finals i guess its the play in round right before the quarters.
by that i mean the round directly after the section finals, i guess it would be the play in game right before the state quarter finals…

Nick Trizano had five goals and an assist for Iona, which ends the season 22-4. George D'Ambrosio added three goals and an assist. The game was delayed by lightning.
We'll be hearing more shortly from Jeff.

where is nick trizano getting recruited by?
Joe,
Has a lower seed (over a 5 or 6) ever made serious noise in the section playoffs over the last few years? It seems like the first round (or two) is overkill and it takes too long to see a meaningful game with two teams that have a legit shot at their Class title.
I appreciate the idea of giving a large majority of teams a chance to play in the playoffs, but why have a regular season then? These teams are playing three timems/week in the season but then wait for 10 days to play real comp.
Sec 1 lax fan – You don't have to go back any further than last season when No. 6 Ardsley upset No. 3 Pleasantville in the quarterfinals. But you're right. For the most part, the seeds wind up holding up. I do think there are some interesting scenarios this year in classes B and C where the final matchups are certainly up for grabs. And as we see more and more parity each year, we should see more playoff upsets too.
Good season for Iona.
Next year the will challenge the big programs in the area, with that powerful offense losing only 1 player.
Joe – They could probably seed the Top 6 in each Class and have #'s 1 & 2 get byes, have 3 v. 6, 4 v. 5 and then reseed after games and play the semis. That would allow another week of league action and maybe not have teams playing 4 games in 7 days during mid-May which is crazy.
Maybe also consider teams playing witin League toward the end of regular season and save the out of Class and non-league games for the beginning/middle. Still have Town-JJ towards end now that Town is dropping to B according to earlier reports.
