Jeff Fritz is an outstanding person. I have had the honor to know him as a parent, a friend and a coach. Jeff has always acted with the utmost integrity and genuine respect for others. My son was fortunate to have played for Jeff on his U13 team. It was a tremendous experience.

towner & Sect 1 I usually won't go back and forth with people but i will make one more comment on this subject..First off because someone signs on as a screen name can we all just sit back and say ok thats who it really is( in this case it is ) but you never know.
If you read the blog in question , i do not name names or hint to the names. I tell of a game that was played that day. My opinion of the game... NOT the team ... is it not true that on some days a team is going to just get beat by a team that plays better that day... I know there is alot of talent there and great coaching ..it just did not click that day .... Sure i could say how good they are and that they are the best in Div. but the sun got in their eyes, they played flat, their best guy did not feel well.. it was an off day ... I gave an opinion on one game .. should other teams not get credit when it is do
many of you have seen my post before I DO NOT NAME NAMES in a negitive way and at times mock and make fun of myself when i'am wrong.. i often speak positive of players on both teams.. As far as the coach. I got his message after his post and will be back in touch ...all and all no harm intended .. ok towner you can pile on now it's all good .. done on this subject and thank you

I am shocked that grown men (after these comments I can’t believe I said that) are fighting about a beloved game of lacrosse. If you are truly a fan with a blogging hobby grow up. Do not worry about the previous incidents. All of the “you said this” and “he said that” is a load. If you can’t express yourselves without losing your head and trying to argue with what another fan said than you better look for a new hobby. It is pitiful that a coach had to come on to the blogs to reprehend a fan on his negative comments. Led this shed some lights on the mere fact that blogs are here to increase the love and understanding for the game.

wow power leaguer

you have some ego. I hope you are a child and not a parent. At the end of the day high school lacrosse is a game, it should be enjoyed by the kids who play and the parents who watch it. It is nice to win- going to practice and working your tail off and playing your hardest, it is nice to win. But it is a high school game do not let it dictate who you are as a person. Just because you are in the "power league" means nothing to me- I am there to support my kid and his team because they work just as hard as every other team. So get off your high horse in the end it does not matter if you win sectionals if you have no class and you do not.

In this, my farewell blog, I will say that it is not a question of large schools vs. small schools. Rye is a small school and is one of the top teams in the state, regardless of class. The bottom line is that far fewer quality players play in the non-power leagues than do in the power league. If you are complaining about the power league structure, you shouldn't, because before that, the traditional powers destroyed (usually by 10 or more) the non-powers. If it wasn't for this structure, all of you non-power leaguers would not be blogging because you might not win a single game. This structure has inflated the egos of parents, players and coaches in the area who until recently, were forced to play the power leaguers. In that respect, the power-league has done wonders for the sport of lacrosse in this area in that it prevents power-leaguers from wasting their time playing non-power leaguers.

Power League -
Respecting the game and its participants (coach, player, ref, and fan) - that is what LAX is about no matter where you play or who you play for. Players cannot control where they live or what coach they play for. Get off your high horse and show some respect.

A child has no control over where he is born and raised. Many talented kids go to smaller schools and play their hearts out - so sorry we can't all be 'Power Leaguers'. Jerk.

power leaguer --hopefully you look one last time and read this. Blogs are what they are ... people who come on do so because they enjoy ...good teams bad teams ...to express opinions. Because a team is better then the other, that gives them rights to blog and the others stay off... thats pretty crazy ... in these public forums anyone has a right to an opinion ... you to stay away from naming names in a negative light and give props to those that do well...
This belittles so many yet to some just playing is a goal they set out for. The teams that are getting better let them enjoy a little press whats the harm. to the better teams keep up; the hard work.. to the others keep working and their supporters keep blogging ...,it makes thing interresting... i for one enjoy most of these commments

I have been reading some of these blogs for the first time this week. What I don't understand is why are people talking about teams that don't matter. There are only a handful of teams that matter in Section I and that is the reality. I truly believe everyone else is just wasting their time and trying to make their team relevant because the press (for obvious reasons) does not and those who know what good lacrosse is do not. If you are not a power league team, you should not say a single word, because you have not played real competition. There is a hierarchy in Section I lacrosse and until you break into that hierarchy, your team is not relevant. I even read somewhere that someone thinks a kid from Irvington is going D-1. That is laughable. And then we hear people worrying about Byram Hills? If and when they Rye, it won't even be close. It is just a waste of everybody's time, except those who try so very hard to make themselves relevant. I, for one, will never look at these blogs again.

I am also with Rich Ferguson. My son Robert played for jeff Fritz for hudson valley u 13 and had a great experience. Jeff even brought coach Jack Emmer to help coach and it was an experience he will never forget. Fritz brings so many of the great values he learned from Coach Emmer. Section 1 lax is much better having Jeff Fritz on board as is the Bobcats program

Class C Laxer- lets be realistic, it's not like he is going to be all smiles if his team is down. A coach will do everything for a call to go his teams way to retain momentum.

Anyone who has stood on the sideline or in the stands for or aginst Fritz has seen who he really is. It's who you are and how you behave when your team is down not when you're riding high that shows what kind of a person lies deep inside. I've witnessed it personally... He;s not a terrible guy, just not a great sport.

I'm with Rich Ferguson. My son Zach was on the team with Shane coached by Jeff Fritz. It was his first year playing lacrosse, and Fritz helped to foster his love of the game. I don't know what all the talk is about, but I wanted to share a positive comment about a person to whom I am grateful.

I am a Byram Hills lacrosse player and I have been fortunately enough to be coached by some great coaches in my career (Ex: ex-coach of Yale, Jeff Hacker, and College Coach of the Year from Bates, Pete Lasagna) but by far Jeff Fritz has been the most influential coach to me. He has developed my skills tremendously and without him I dont think that i would even be playing lacrosse. I dont think that is right for anybody to criticize him when they arent FORTUNATE enough to be coached by him. I am in his huddles every day and not ONCE has he ever said anything negative about another team and or player. Before you criticize coach Fritz ever again, make sure you know what you are talking about.

I have to agree 100% with Mr. Ferguson. If you have a problem with Jeff Fritz and you had a negative experience with him I'm sorry, but that doesn't change the fact that he is an extremely classy guy and a great coach. He has basically founded the Byram Hills Youth Lacrosse program and has been a coach and a mentor for these kids since 3rd grade. He fought last year to have his kids put in League A, and with a 10-3 record he was right to put them there - so yea, that counts as a positive. As for sportsmanship, I've never ever seen him once speak badly to any member of any other team. Jeff Fritz has taken a team that in 2005 was 2-13 in League A to a 10-3 team in that same league...that counts as "elevating" his team.

Rich Ferguson,

Firstly respect to you for using your real name which frankly adds credence to "your side" of the story.

But actually to be fair I dont know who is right.

But at least sinc Fritz was publicly dragged in the mud,he was able to get a counter positive public response from you.

Pville - I am on this Blog a lot but this is my first time not using an alias. I am sorry that somewhere along the line you had a bad experience with Jeff Fritz, but I have to share my side of the story. I think Jeff is one of the finest people we have involved in Youth and HS lacrosse today. He coaches the game in an honorable manner, teaches the kids the right way to play, and never forgets the person he met along the way. In the past year Jeff contacted 3 College coaches in an effort to have Shane looked at in a serious manner. Those of you who have yet to go thru it, college lacrosse recruiting is one of the most frustrating things you can imagine, even when your kid is considered a "Slam Dunk". and all this because 5 years ago, as a 12 year old. shane had the opportunity to be coached by Jeff on the HV u-13 team for 4 or 5 weeks. I am sure this won't change your opinion, but for my 2 cents, I would welcome Jeff as a coach and mentor for my kids any time.

Syracuse,

Hear rumor emotions were running at fever pitch in Rye practice with coach having to send kids off the field at times to cool off.

I'll tell you one thing JJ may very well end up winning the game but Rye's not gonna walk away from that field tomorrow having NOT used every bit of energy and ability that these kids can put out.

Coach Kuczma,

Absolutely (applies to coaches as well as I said above). Guess some of these people will only see the light when their kid (or them if they're a player) eventually gets publicly critizized.

Pville,

2 comments. I think Joe and others see this blog as being used for making POSITIVE comments or only general non personally directed negative commnets. Sounds like you have very strong feelings about Fritz which mean alot to you. If your're even half correct, not being in the running for coach of the year will take care of itself for Fritz.

Also not sure its no brainer AT THIS that Section 1 is "down for the count this year". Yes JJ is NOT as strong as they were last year but Town (yes somewhat inconsistent), Brewster and Rye are stronger as is Byrum Hills. Yes Pac, LP,Mamar and HH are having tough seasons.

If JJ and Town can pull out wins vs Comsequogue and Wilton would go further to my thought that Sect 1 still has some really good quality relative to last yr.

Put valley - BHills game ... Credit to the Hills long poles that force alot of turnovers and have alot of speed. I for one do not put that much into # 17 he was good but did not stand out above the rest of his team, like i have been reading. They beat the valley up and down , got to all the ground balls & basically wanted it more.
The Valley very poor shot selection in particular one or two guys. More drops and not alot of heart. Did they even get any ground balls ..... Now this may have been due to B hills play. Time of possesion went to Valley but, what bad bad shot selection ( hint pass the ball).
Bhill credit to you guys on the team & coaching staff a game played well. To the Bhill mothers there class job,,,// to the Bhills dad on top of the stands get a grip it's a high school game ... let the kids play & refs do their job. When your wife gives an apology for your behavior you look to take a good look at yourself. With 15 seconds left in the game, up 3 and still yelling stuff ....please .... Sorry but this stuff surfaces more & more ..to bad !

Jeff Fritz is not the coach of the year, he has no class, he does not focus on sportsmanship and it shows on the field. The bottom line is that he beat a weak Put Valley team and has his most talented group of kids ever. Doubtful he has done anything special to elevate his team. Anyone who knows him knows that...

As for JJ, they are a strong team but they are a shell of their former selves from last year... Wake up people, Section I is down for the count this year.

the blog frog,

Can't believe as a J fan that you are actually giving away the "historical perspective" of the 3 pronged attack behind J's offense which has now morphed into a 4 pronged attack!!. I'm forwarding this to the Dooleys ASAP.

Every little thing helps!!

So even if you are in league b you need to go by what Division your team is in - Correct? Why is it that all teams in your league are not listed as a league game?

Wholly Mamoth -
i agree, ive seen number 39 play a couple of times and i defintly think he could become one of the top defenders in the section over the next few years.

So based on the qualifiers for sectional in Class C you need to win 40% of your games. If I am right(which I know I am) Pleasantville will lose to Brewster which will put them at 4-9 with 3 games to go. If they go 2 and 1 then they don't make playoffs since there winning percentage will be .375. So Pville will need to go 3-0 against Greely, Briacliff, and Scarsdale. I guess its time for 3 more team meetings, a couple Our Fathers, and time to light some candles.

Good luck P'ville you will need it. Tough having only 19 kids. In comparison you have JJ with 39 players. Even Briacliff has 25 kids.

good historical catch, laxman 34!

the blog frog, I think we should just stop the season now and give Jay the Class B title, and the A and C while we're at it! what's the point of playing any more games? I guess Nisky, Manhasset and St. Anthony's must have had 4 prongs or somethin'.......

Honestly, john jay is unstoppable right now. ya, theyve been a little weak against top 25, but their untouchable in section 1-similar to the likes of Lebron James, Walter Payton, maybe even the Greek god Zeus.

In 1977, the British released a three-pronged attack on the United States during the revolutionary war. Since then, the three-pronged attack has diminished, until now, John Jay (Cross River of course) has brought the famed three-pronged attack back. Unlike the attack in the Revolutionary War, this one is, and will work, with the head of the three pronged attack-Chris Bocklet. The opposing defense mans up on him, maybe even a little double team when he gets the ball. If they're not gone after the fake pass, Harrison Jones, one of the other prongs, is there, standing aside the goal, ready to catch and underhand it past the helpless goalie.
And now, a new prong has emerged, just when you can't handle any more, Billy LaPerch comes in out of nowhere, and BOOM - Goal Lasso. By the way, start running, you have 10 seconds, run straight towards your goal... and Kevin Drew will still run past you. Tyler Granelli-he aint too shabby dishin it out either, plus the great flow erupting out of the back of the helmet.

What I'm trying to say is that John Jay is going places, hopefully Hostra, well see what happens. But in the mean time, you watch out for those three prongs... before they getchya. Actually, dont. im a big jj fan.

laxer 11 -

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Another busy night at the office with all the games coming in, etc.

Anyway, let me know if you have any questions:

• All Division A teams qualify for sectionals regardless of record. In Division B, teams must have a winning percentage of 30 percent. In Division C, it's 40 percent.

• According to the seeding rules employed this past spring, the nine "power league" teams drew higher seeds than any non-power league teams regardless of record. You will recall last year, Mahopac got a No. 4 seed in Class A despite finishing the regular season 4-13 because it was in the power league — a scenario that created quite a bit of discussion right here on the blog last year.

There is a stipulation that the members of the seeding committee may, at their discretion, decide not follow that criteria.

Losing Monaghan and Trachtenberg were big losses, but the real loss was the core of 10 Sr's who had played together as a group since youth lax in 5th grade. There was no way to replace that nucleus. And Mamk is going to struggle against any good team, but the question was how did they beat Scarsdale. Today, the "disaster" that they are was good enough to beat the Raiders. I guess that begs the question, What to you call Scarsdale who was able to score all of 2 goals in the final 36 minutes

put val fan, that must have been a typo. I assume you meant 17, as he is clearly one of the strongest players on that team. 16 did nothing to contribute to the team, he just dropped passes and got shut down every time he made a move. Byram came out with a big win by playing excellent defense against Put Valley's starting attack. The three close defenders (2, 9, 12) each played a great game and deserve some recognition going into their next few games. On the other hand, Put Valley is still a team to be played with, as they played a great game and the shots just didn't fall right. Good luck to both of the teams in the rest of their season and in sectionals.

haha sorry laxwatcher but i have to disagree - mamk was a disaster this season. teams they used to beat when they had moynahan and trachtenberg walked all over mamk this season. and also, they are entirely a one person team on offense...that kid shane is the only one who can put up serious points...without him theyd have zero wins

Yeah what?!?! 16? and 13? for byram were good? i didnt even see them on the field. 17 is pretty good though. their D lookd strong as well as their goalie. 15 lookd okay as well but i still think Put Valley can beat them if they see them again

Wondering how Mamk takes down Scarsdale makes me wonder what you are talking about. Mamk has won 5 in a row against scarsdale, the scarsdale kids couldn't hold onto the ball, and Mamaroneck has finally developed the teamwork to the point where they are no longer a one player team on offense. Fergie had no points at half and Mamk was still winning 6-4, although he did end up with 5 and 1.

Come on lets go easy with BHills being nothing more than a little little nat to JJ. BHills was up 4-3 going into the 4th against PValley. The same team JJ was up 9-1 against at the end of the 1st Qtr. JJ then put in the 6th graders and won 17-3. Remember just because JJ has lost a couple times to some LI teams don't think the rest of Westchester (besides Yorktown) can play with them.

Look at Pville vs Bhills. Score is tied 7-7 going into the 4th. As close as you can get after 3 periods. BH goes onto to win 10-7.

Then Pville goes to play Yorktown and not sure of the final score but the score is 7-1 after the 1st qtr. Just shows you the disparity between the Yorktown and JJ's of the world and everybody else.

haha put val fan. was i at the same game you were at? first of all, jj shouldnt pay close attention to byram at all. they can beat them with their second string. second of all, i didnt even know 16 was on the field until i saw him drop 3 passes. he didnt do anything all game. the only kids on byram who did anything on offense were 17 7 and 13. byram did play well though - props to them, taking down another big name like put valley...theyll prob lock up a 2 seed in sectionals...

on another note... suffern continues to lose, north rockland cant get back into their groove, and how does mamk take down scarsdale...things just arent right people!

Teams play across classes during the season for the level of competition. Different sports are classified different ways because of the level of contact.

Seeding is based on power league and then league record.

Byram did a great job today vs PV. Teams should beware of Byram's #16 and his ability to control the field. He is a threat from everywhere. Mahopac and JJ should definitely pay close attention to him

Scout42- My bad I forgot Byram is in Class C in the sectionals. I am sure too complicated to explain in the blog but can someone in a shorten version explain to me why teams play class B, teams all year with a couple A teams and then go down to Class C in the sectionals. Also why is Byram a Class B team in Basketball but a Class C team in Lax? What happened to the old days where you were in Class A, B, C, OR D for all sports. You only played teams in your Class and it was completly based on your student population.

Paul - I'm going to have to disagree with you there about Byram folding come playoff time. Byram is in Class C for the Sectional Tournament, with the two big teams in Class C historically being Rye and Put Valley. Byram took down Put Valley today 7-4, basically locking up a 2 seed in sectionals. I don't know how fair it is to say that a 2 seed will fold quickly come playoff time. Byram has been turning some heads this year and will definitely be a team to watch come playoff time. I see a Byram Rye final...and of course Rye will continue their winning streak to 4 consecutive sectional titles.

Talk about suffering, how about that Pville team. All that talk about the TEAM meeting after beating Somers earlier in the year. So much for that! They clearly are the biggest disappointment of the year. They lose to Briacliff and it really will be a disaster of a season. They are 4 and 8 and you can easily chalk up the Brewster game as a loss, so that makes them 4-9 with 3 games left against Briarcliff, Scarsdale, and Greeley. They could lose all three and go 4-12. I will give them a little of respect and have them going 2-1 in those 3 games bringing their record to 6-10. Can you make the playoffs/sectionals with a losing record?

On the other end of suffering and a team clearing surprising people is Byram Hills with 10 wins and only 3 loses. I hate to say it but they just keep pulling out the close games. But with that said they have only beat 3 teams with winning records. I see think they fold very quickly come playoff time.

Any thoughts??

IrvMan, you must stop with this Irvington gargbage. They are not going to send anyone D-1 and them playing peekskill is a joke. How could a defense go D-1 if they let up 13 goals in one half? Yes, that is an Edgemont reference, they rule. Good Day.

Jay got 6 goals from Harrison Jones and 4 goals from Billy LaPerch. Nice game by the two seniors. Both those kids show up for every game. Everybody (rightly) worries about the big three and those two will literally kill you. Defense played a good game. I don't think suffern had 14 shots. Nice warm up for a tough Rye team on Tuesday.
Anyone know where Jones and LaPerch are going to school next year?

You were close on your Irv/Sleepy prediction. It was a hard fought game with Irvington coming out on top 5-4.
Irvington's defense held Sleepy scoreless in the 1st, letting up 4 goals(1 was man down) in the 2nd, and then held them scoreless the whole 2nd half. Dan Glantz played spectacularly in cage, and defender James Sears put Brendon Chillemi on lock down, holding Sleepy's leading scorer to no goals.

Irvington is now 5-5, with 3 wins in a row. I know its a few days early, but what is your prediction on Irvington @ Peekskill Thursday? The Bulldogs already won the 1st matchup in the 1st round of the Hastings Tournie. Thanks Joe
