Boys lacrosse in the Lower Hudson Valley with Joe Lombardi

Lax roundtable

May
6

Jeff and Harold joined me this afternoon in the operations center of The Journal News and LoHud.com for a lively discussion about some of the events of the last few days, including the Murphy Cup and Briarcliff’s nine-game win streak.

We also looked ahead to some big games coming up, including John Jay at Rye, and even touched on the NCAA Division I tournament that starts Saturday. In fact, I went ahead and revealed who this year’s national champion will be!

Joe- heard the game was good. LP showed there might and almost pulled it out!

  2. Joe Lombardi

Ricardo – It was a very spirited comeback by L/P. You would have been proud no doubt.

  3. Vin D'Andraia

    He's back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Ric B

I am lost and now I am found! Joey, I am glad to see L/P with a good showing. Lunch next time I am in Westchester?
Vin- give my best to the bro's and parents. I owe Roc a call still…!

  5. Joe Lombardi

Ric – Yeh definitely … in the meantime, hopefully you will find the time to pop in more frequently and shared your insights as the NCAA tournament unfolds. It should be a good one.

  6. Syracuse

I saw Ric B. once cheap-shot the crap out of E. Elfstrum. It looked like something out of "Slapshot". Yes, I laughed.

  7. Joe Lombardi

Cuse – Knowing Ric, I'm sure he would say it was just a love tap.

  8. Vin D'Andraia

Ric mad e a kid on Hobart cry once. It was very mean

  9. Syracuse

I remember Ric in the 8th grade dating seniors.

  10. Vin D'Andraia

I heard if Ric threw a rap check in Lakeland someone in Yorktown would mysteriously drop their stick.

  11. Syracuse

Well, that's probably what they told him.

  12. SI

I heard Ric was All-Section as an 8th Grader in both football and lacrosse. Any truth to that?

  13. Ric B

I love the chatter. I don't think I ever gave a cheap shot to Erik, but I am sure if I did he deserved it. I just had a great laugh about when I was in 8th grade dating seniors (it was 9th). All-section in 8th grade, no, not me. 10th and on, yes. I was on the freshman team in 8th grade woopin it up…god, the old days, what I would give to be back then…..

  14. Syracuse

The legend of Ric B. grows. I didn't even go to Lakeland and I can tell you I heard the stories about the seniors he used to date when he was in the 6th grade.

I did play against Ric when he was on the freshman team. He was all of 9 then.

About the author
Joe Lombardi Joe Lombardi did not become familiar with lacrosse until after graduating from both Irvington High School and the University of Dayton Ñ neither of which offered the sport. But it didn't take him long to take a liking to lacrosse since it combines elements of several of his favorite sports: basketball, hockey and football. In addition to serving as local sports editor of The Journal News and LoHud.com, he also writes the weekly "Catching up with...":http://lohud.com/catchingup feature that appears on Tuesdays. Joe can also be seen each Monday during the school year on RNN's "NewsCenter Now," providing a look at the week ahead in local sports, as well as on "Varsity Central Extra," which appears on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.
