Turning point?

There wasn’t much celebrating for Pleasantville prior to yesterday. But the Panthers had a great 6-4 come-from-behind victory over Somers the day after a team meeting. (Photo by Tania Savayan/The Journal News)

In Pleasantville’s 6-4 win today over Somers, it trailed 3-1 and 4-2 at different points in the first half. Pleasantville was having difficulty slowing down Joe Marasco and appeared on its way to its third straight loss.

You lose three in a row, you’re on a losing streak. (Well, according to me.)

Anyway, the fourth game of the season might be a bit early for “turning points” but Pleasantville might have really had one today. Pleasantville was great in the second half. Its goalie Conor Fraylick was sharp, its defense, led by Chris Gautieri and Matt DiFabio, was disciplined and its offense found ways to score against a Somers defense that had allowed just six goals through two games.

Pleasantville’s turning point may have actually come on Friday.

Pleasantville’s four senior captains called a meeting prior to practice for the players to try to hash things out.

I spoke to Plesantville’s Dylan Thomas and Tyler Thomas after the game and both said the meeting really had an impact on the team and yesterday’s game. Players got their frustration out and there was a realization that the season was still very early. There was still plenty of time to accomplish what they wanted.

Did the meeting, in which players talked about their commitment to the team and sticking together really have an impact on Pleasantville’s comeback win? The players seem to think so.

Is that a convenient explanation for a team finally putting together a really quality performance that just coincidentally followed a meeting or a legitimate reason for the improved play?

What do you guys think? Do meetings really have an impact? And if so, how long do they last?

pleasantville is out for vengeance. Watch out, this team has weapons and the victory against somers proves the point that pleasantville is the real deal. a couple of bad games doesnt faze this squad and without 12 penalties a game, pleasantville is dangerous. keep your eye on the panthers.

For all the bloggers ripping the Pleasantville players and the coaches, this is the type of team that Pleasantville is. All HEART and alot of talent.

  3. Empire

It seems as if they lacked that heart in the first few games.

  4. Rock!!!

Hey all you people that yelled at P' Villes players and coaches you should feel really bad! P'Ville rocked the field, I heard one person say there was Somers blood on the field from the lose! Somers can out thinking they were the best and they would win , but they didnt. Somers has a lot of attuide but not a lot of game!

alot of section 1 surprises this year, looks like it's one of those years where if a team doesnt show up to play every game they can lose to almost any other team, with a few exceptions, but for the most part it looks like section 1 talent is spreading to alot more teams than it used to be. anyone else agree?

  6. seminoles

its great to see that one pleasantvilles most prized almuni lax player is the 9th most underrated player in section 1 according to the poll

  7. Joe Lombardi

Yes indeed. Ben's legacy lives on. BTW – both Ben and Brewster's Matt Jankowski are key contributes for Florida State's team. Matt transferred to FSU from Hartford.

Hey rock congrats on the win ….. but the line where you wrote "I heard one person say there was Somers blood on the field from the lose!" You always want to compete but when you take it this far , it's out of line. Play hard for the full time leave the cheap hits and talk like that out , then it's all good. Your long poles where killing you guys with all the flags. Play the ball more.

12rock, good point I agree with you that you should always respect your opponent. One thing that helped P'ville on Saturday was that they took very few penalties. As far as playing the ball what people seem to be missing is that long pole chris gautieri had 16 ground balls on saturday (it's in the paper) and has a bunch more in the other 3 games…

12rock you make some good points about respecting your opponents and taking too many penalties. it should be noted that p'ville was only flagged a couple of times on saturday, Somers took more bad penalties. it also seems to go unnoticed that a p'ville long pole (chris gautieri) had 16 ground balls on saturday and has been eating 'em all season…if that's not playing the ball i don't know what is…

What do you think will happen on saterday, when p'ville faces rye?

  12. Jeff Gold

I think it will be a low-scoring, close game, something like a 5-4 win for Rye.

Great game by P'ville over Somers on Sat. It needs to back it up with a bit more consistency.

  13. Rock!!!

I think that this rye Vs. P'ville will win at a 1 point lead. Conor Fraylick will play an amazing game like usual. Pleasantville will have a good defensive game and hopefully one of the defenders like Chris Gauteri will score a goal and have a great game. The Thomas' brothers will play an amazing game and either Tyler will pass to Dylan and he'll score or Dylan will pass to Tyler and Tyler will score!

  14. Jim

Rock!!!-Rye won 10-4, 3 of there goals were on man up and the last was in the 4th quarter when rye had 4 defenders on the feild my accident. No one player really stood out in the game. But number 19 had a pretty good shot.
