Great Expectations

With most lacrosse teams getting their seasons under way, I’m wondering whether the players and the coaches are getting specific about their goals and expectations for the season.
Are they vague? Examples: “We want to improve every day” or “We want to be competitive in all our games.”
Or specific? Example: “We want to make it to the sectional final. That’s our barometer for a successful season.”
Obviously, it depends on the team, but I always find it interesting how coaches and players approach the start of the season. Some coaches will openly admit that the regular season, especially the early stages, is essentially a continuation of preseason camp and that their entire season will be determined by postseason results. Others will treat every game as crucial from the start.
How important are games in April to determining results at the end of May? How specific should goals be before the year begins?

yay!
