Two of the greatest words in sports: opening day.
The 2008 Section 1 boys lax season kicks off today with a solid matchup of Brewster and Put Valley. Also today, Albertus Magnus visits Horace Mann.
As of this posting (12:22 a.m.), the Brewster-PV game is scheduled for Brewster, but that could change to PV and it’s turf field if there is inclement weather. Check back during the day for updates.
The entire lacrosse community is expected to be there, getting their first look at a live game.
OK, maybe not, but TJN own’s Harold Gutmann will be on hand. If you see the guy who seems depressed about a Duke loss, it’s Harold. Feel free to mock him.
As for the game itself, Brewster should be ready to go after a tough 5-12 season, The Bears have eight returning starters including Syracuse-bound star Zach Badalucco, a great and gritty defender. Look for midfielders Nick Alifonzetti and Ethan Meyer to work well in tandem.
The Bears also have a standout attackman in Matt King, who has committed to Sacred Heart.
Put Valley doesn’t have as much returning as Brewster with only three starters back. Cousins Hugh and Dan O’Gorman, a defenseman and midfielder respectively, are two players to watch. Goalie John Landi steps in as the full-time starter.
Thoughts?

I hope to make this game and hope the weather holds. You don't have to twist my arm I'll be on the lookout for Harold. And to both teams lets get it on: come out strong and come out clean. Lets see if this DOG has teeth and bites.
Just wanted to confirm the site and time: 4:30 at Brewster.
Will there be updates during the game between PV and Brewster?
Brewster picked up an impressive 18-5 win. Here's more info.
Harold will be back shortly with his thoughts.
