In my not so expert opinion, Byram - Rye is a definite match up for the finals. It is looking like Rye will be 1 seed, Byram 2, Put Valley 3, and Briarcliff 4. If that is the case, Byram will end up playing Put Valley [and they already beat them once this year by 3 goals], and Rye wil pick off Briarcliff, leaving Rye and Byram to advance to the finals. What happens there, we will have to wait and see.

There are a lot of good C teams that are not being recognized. Why do people say it is only between Rye and Byram Hills? Several C teams can hand Byram an upset. Joe what do you think? Is Byrum/ Rye a sure thing?

Class C section championship : Rye vs Byram Hills, Byram wins by 1 in OT, Byram has beat every other team in it's class except Rye, and the championship should be a good one

Yeah but by saying what you are saying you believe Jay to be a 5-goal better team than Yorktown. I can't see how anyone can justify that other than by saying "that's my opinion."

That is some funny stuff there. Jay will dominate the hottest team in the section while Yorktown and Rye will lose heartbreakers to L/P and PV, respectively. I think many people on this board SERIOUSLY overrate John Jay. It's almost ridiculous.

There is no way that PV scores 8 goals on Rye. Rye has not given up more than 6 goals this season to a section 1 opponent, and even that only happened once (against Yorktown). Rye is going to smoke whoever they play in sectionals. Let's focus more on Class A and B.

I think Town is going to bring their A game to the playoffs. We saw it last year (hell, they gave West Islip a run at their money).

Class A
Yorktown-14 L/P-8
-Interlicchio has another big day vs LP while Ranagan is a horse between the lines for Town again...

Class B
John Jay-16 Brewster-9
-Bocklet has a great day to wrap it up for his senior year...

Class C
Rye-13 Put Valler-8

I think people should really watch our for North Salem in class C/D. I watched a scrimmage this year and they really showed me alot. Im not saying to put them down as state champions, but watch for them when sectionals roll around.

Attitude and what not aside, byram hills has alot of talent on their senior heavy team. They may be, however, a little over their own heads in a league including John Jay, Rye and other section 1 powerhouse teams.

C South will be a solid team, but keep in mind that james devine is a great defensive middie and is going to bryant for that. i think south has trouble scoring this year, particularly against good teams.

To correct you i believe Jimmy Comfort has graduated from Clarkstown South...They are lead by James Devine who is going to Bryant, Tom Riley who is going to RIT and Luke Haggerty who is an undecided senior. I see Clarkstown making it far but i dont know if they have the firepower to beat a team like Lakeland, Yorktown but with one of those middies with a shorty is a pretty dangerous situation for opposing defenses.

erik, you bring up a good point, pville lost their goalie, i believe an all section defender and dean rossi who had the ability to carry the game at any pace he wished also with regards to the byram pville game from last year, that was byrams worst game of the season and got out of hand when byrams goalie took penalties and they had no backup goalie, pville capitalized and was able to run up the score, but i think class c is wide open and any of the teams can win as ive said before i am excited for the season to start

Not saying that the team I support will play rye in title game, but didn't Pleasantville bash Byram by 8 or 9 goals last year against those very same players they have back this year? Last I heard P'Ville has their entire defense back except their goalie and return all of their leading scorers back except one. To be honest though, I bet Putnam Valley and Pleasantville would love to read those finals predictions...We havent heard too much from either of those teams this off-season. At least not TOO much.

Those breakdowns are the ones based on school enrollment, I would assume.
Roosevelt is in the C division for lax.

Poor Roosevelt; how do they end up in class a, when they don't have any lax in the whole city? Those poor kids work hard for 4 weeks before the season just to learn how to cradle... why doesn't section 1 do relegation like in pro soccer? you win, you move up... you lose, drop down...

Thanks Goldie. And also thanks to Josh Thomson for stopping by the Section 1 office today and picking up the sports booklets w/ classifications and alignments.

Also gang - we have a bit of a flip flop. I originally reported the state semis would be in Hofstra this year. I was then informed they had been moved to West Point. Well - I received final (hopefully) definitive word today that they will be in Hofstra. Hope that's the end of the back and forth on this. The state finals will also be at Hofstra — and they are a bit later this year too — on Saturday, June 14.
