On to the quarterfinals

Here’s a quick look ahead, I’ll do more on these games Monday. All of the quarterfinals are to be played on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., but game times often change, so check back for updates. We’ve got some really good match ups to look forward to. I like North Rockland at Mahopac, Rye at Brewster, Pelham at Byram Hills and Putnam Valley at Bronxville.

We had something happen up in my neck of the woods last night that knocked out phone and cell service, which means I have to run to Staples in order to update the blog, so I’ll only be on the blog sporadically over the weekend. My wife is thrilled.

First round: Class A

No. 1 Lakeland/Panas (10-6) bye

No. 9 New Rochelle (6-10) at No. 8 Wappingers (8-6)
4:30 p.m. at Ketcham H.S.
Pick: The Huguenots were in a relatively tough league and took a lot of hard losses there, but is probably a step behind here. … Wappingers wins 8-6.

No. 5 North Rockland (10-6) bye

No. 4 Mahopac (9-7) bye

No. 3 Arlington (10-6) bye

No. 11 Clarkstown North (5-11) at No. 6 Clarkstown South (10-6)
4:30 p.m.
Pick: It’s always kind of a bumpy game when these rivals get together, but South is way ahead in terms of skill this year. … Clarkstown South wins 14-3.

No. 10 Mamaroneck (6-10) at No. 7 White Plains (9-7)
4:30 p.m.
Pick: This is the hardest game of the day to pick because I’m not sure who Mamaroneck is right now. I do know White Plains is better when motivated, and if you can’t get up for a playoff game you need to go play golf. … White Plains wins 9-8.

First round: Class B

No. 1 Yorktown (12-4) bye

No. 9 Greeley (7-9) at No. 8 Fox Lane (8-8)
2:30 p.m.
Pick: I wanna pick the Foxes, really I do, but it really is hard to beat a motivated team three times in a season. … Greeley wins 7-6.

No. 12 Eastchester (6-10) at No. 5 Rye (9-6)
2 p.m.
Pick: The underclassmen are no longer inexperienced so the Garnets are winning consistently now. … Rye wins 12-5.

No. 13 Nyack (6-10) at No. 4 Brewster (10-6)
4:30 p.m.
Pick: The Bears landed in a tough corner of this bracket and should be grumpy. Either way it’s difficult to finish on this team. … Brewster wins 9-3.

No. 14 Peekskill (5-11) at No. 3 Somers (9-7)
4:30 p.m.
Pick: Yep. I’m still feeling bad for the Red Devils. The Tuskers are in no mood to go easy, but at least Peekskill will get to see what the next level is like. … Somers wins 15-3.

No. 11 Scarsdale (6-10) at No. 6 Tappan Zee (11-5)
7 p.m.
Pick: The Raiders went 5-3 against so-so competition in the last three weeks, but the Dutchmen have more players right now. … Tappan Zee wins 8-6.

No. 10 Harrison (7-9) at No. 7 Ossining (9-7)
4:30 p.m.
Pick:The Pride only beat one team with a winning record. The Huskies didn’t beat a winning team all season, but played some good teams close. … Harrison wins 8-5.

No. 2 John Jay (10-6) bye

First round: Class C

No. 16 Pearl River (6-11) at No. 1 Bronxville (15-1)
3:45 p.m.
Pick: The run-and-gun Broncos are the last team I’d want to play on the second day of a back-to-back set. … Bronxville wins 16-4.

No. 9 Edgemont (11-5) at No. 8 Putnam Valley (9-7)
4:30 p.m.
Pick: It’s been a couple of years since the Tigers were top dog in Class C, but very few teams can match their level of big-game experience. … Putnam Valley wins 10-5.

No. 12 North Salem (9-6-1) at No. 5 Pelham (12-4)
4:30 p.m.
Pick: It’s a game of match-ups and North Salem needs to be careful not to give Brian Buckley and Matt Landis any room to work with. … Pelham wins 11-4.

No. 13 Haldane (6-9) at No. 4 Byram Hills (10-4)

Forfeit
Note: Haldane elected to skip the game so team members could attend prom. Nobody wins in that situation. Byram Hills awaits Pelham or North Salem.

No. 14. Hastings (8-8) at No. 3 Croton-Harmon (14-2)
4:30 p.m.
Pick: The Tigers have been able to sustain a couple years of success, but you’re not on the map until you win playoff games. … Croton wins 12-6.

No. 11 Hen Hud (7-9) at No. 6 Keio (11-5)
4:30 p.m.
Pick: The Sailors are not unhappy about having to play on the road, where the bounces are better. … Hen Hud wins 9-2.

No. 10 Irvington (7-5) at No. 7 Kennedy Catholic (13-3)
4:30 p.m.
Pick: The Gaels need a playoff win to keep the program moving forward and they are playing with a lot of intensity. … Kennedy wins 9-6.

No. 18 Pleasantville (4-13) at No. 2 Dobbs Ferry (14-2)
4:30 p.m.
Pick: The Panthers are not deep, so playing two in a row could be an issue, but I don’t like the way the Eagles finished the season. … Pleasantville wins 8-7.

NYSAISAA Boys Lacrosse Tournament

Hackley is coming into the NYSAISAA tournament on a 15-game winning streak and the knowledge that it’s handled every team in the field. After losing the final game each of the last two years, the Hornets only have to deal with the pressure to meet expectations and cap a great season with a championship. No big deal.

First round
Sunday
No. 8 Collegiate at No. 1 Hackley, 11 a.m.
No. 4 Riverdale at No. 5 Poly Prep, 2 p.m.

No. 6 Dalton at No. 3 Rye Country Day, 11 a.m.
No. 7 Trinity at No. 2 Fieldston, 11 a.m.

Semifinals
Monday at field to be determined

Championship
Wednesday at Manhattanville College, 3:30 p.m.

Scoreboard: May 17

I’m not making predictions on the outbracket games, but I’m thinking we could have a very interesting match-up tomorrow in Class C if Pleasantville wins. The Panthers would move on to play Dobbs Ferry, which could be a fun game to watch.

Check in the morning for my first-round previews and picks.

Leave us a score, please, if you’re out watching today and keep an eye on my Twitter feed. I have to go watch a middle school band concert tonight, but I’ll be sitting in the back with the cell phone in hand sharing what I know. Good luck to the guys in between the lines.
